The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is a gun rights advocacy group based in the United States. Founded in 1871 to advance rifle marksmanship, the modern NRA has become a prominent gun rights lobbying organization while continuing to teach firearm safety and competency. The organization also publishes several magazines and sponsors competitive marksmanship events. According to the NRA, it had nearly 5 million members as of December 2018, though that figure has not been independently confirmed. The NRA is among the most influential advocacy groups in U.S. politics. The NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) is its lobbying division, which manages its political action committee (PAC), the Political Victory Fund (PVF). Over its history the organization has influenced legislation, participated in or initiated lawsuits, and endorsed or opposed various candidates at local, state, and federal levels. Some notable lobbying efforts by the NRA-ILA are the Firearm Owners Protection Act, which lessened restrictions of the Gun Control Act of 1968, and the Dickey Amendment, which blocks the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from using federal funds to advocate for gun control.
From mid-to-late 1970s, the NRA has become increasingly more criticized by gun control and gun rights advocacy groups, political commentators, and politicians. The organization has been the focus of intense criticism in the aftermath of high-profile shootings, such as the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, after which they suggested adding armed security guards to schools.

I trust those that got a call from the NRA today responded with a call to their
Local legislator. Mine is Barbara Bailey and a real person answered the line.
I informed them of the bills I hoped she was voting against and I was assured
that she was indeed voting against them.
Sorry, I threw my...
Why are "pro 2A" companies and organizations not capitalizing on the 2A efforts nationwide, beyond paying lip service (like "thoughts and prayers and support") and asking for donations?
Why not turn the pro 2A amateur activists into professional activists?
Lets use the great photographer and...

Anyone have access to the original NRA article? Is the Oregonian article a hit piece? If so, time to hit the comments section.
I am going to be joining the NRA, and they are asking the magazine I wish to subscribe to: American Rifleman, American Hunter, America's 1st Freedom, or Shooting Illustrated. I am assuming one comes with the membership. I currently own a shotgun and will be purchasing a centerfire rifle in the...
Received the NRA 2019 Board of Directors ballot package today.
I don't know anything about anyone on the list. Any recommendations or insights? Someone I should definitely, or not, vote for? Says to limit to 27, but heck, there's that many on the Board?
As you can tell, I shouldn't be...
This article was just published in "Firearms News.Com." It was written by Jeff Knox, who is the son of Neal Knox who was the Executive Director of the NRA ILA from 78-82. Neal Knox was subsequently ousted in a staff mutiny. So you'll have to decide for yourself if he (Jeff Knox) knows what he's...
Hey Everyone,
I recently got my 2019 NRA Board of Directors ballot. Upon reviewing the 33 candidates for the board I was shocked there was only 3 candidates from the west coast. A retired Senator from Idaho, ex-special ops guy from Colorado and Congressman from Alaska.
I think we need some...

1639 is headed to court and we're the lead plaintiff in the Federal Lawsuit filed by the Second Amendment Foundation and the NRA. SAF and the NRA are picking up the direct legal cost for the suit, however we are asked every day how people can donate so here's an option to support the legal...
