What are the road conditions like to get to this spot? Can it be reached vi the visible, but unmarked road that goes directly from HWY20?
Hi. Anyone know if this is the area planned for the Sky Valley Shooting Park?

Send me a PM if you have questions about where to go.
Thanks
I will be going up to Gooseneck Road tomorrow. Are all the roads cleared and where is a good spot to sight in a rifle (up to 50 yards).

thank you

I was up there a week ago and when you take the upper road and get to the forks I went right where I normally go and it was still blocked by trees.
Some friends and i were thinking about going here soon. I recently bought target stand below. There are 4 holes to help secure stand to ground. Is this even necessary? And if so, what is the ground like there? is it hard gravel? soft dirt? thanks!

It is mostly gravel on the upper lanes and compacted dirt on the lower two lanes.
You could get by with a heavy rock or only hitting paper tho.

If it is really windy, you may need something to aid in keeping it upright. Otherwise, I’d say you won’t need anything. Heavy rocks or some sand bags in the legs might help if absolutely needed. There isn’t really a way to stake targets however due to the composition of the range.
Total noob here. What sort of targets would you recommend if I'm bringing handgun and rifle? I've only shot paper targets with handgun at range. Is there anything to place targets on ? thanks!

You’ll have to bring your own target stands. If you just want to hit something, I recommend steel targets for unlimited, non interrupted fun. If you want to zero in your sights or evaluate your accuracy, I’d use paper targets.

Whatever you attach your targets to, please remember to take it back with you. Too many people just leave their stuff out there and good folks have to pick up after them. Just want to get you started out right.;)

I've been going up there for years, and when I first started, I came up with all sort of home made solutions, none of which held up for long, even the PVC tubing ones don't take being shot well. There are a lot of options, but for the last three years I've been using solutions from an Oregon company Thor Targets. I'm currently using one of the paper target stands, three of their steel plate systems, and a gong. They all have held up well and didn't cost much when you consider you'll be spreading that cost out over years of use. I will also second @arrowshooter in requesting you take with you anything you bring in. I know some people think they are doing the next guy a favor when they leave their post sticking out of the top of the berm not realizing it wasn't supposed to be up there in the first place. What ever you end up shooting at, keep it on the ground, in front of the backstop, and take it with you when you're done.
Can anyone give me an idea on costs for the engraving, maybe a pic of your gun before and after and what that cost was if you dont mind?

I'm not going to post photos because I'd be blurring out most of the name and city, but I will tell you the cost (avg) is $40 per unless you're doing multiple, and they'll probably cut you a deal (they did me and I didn't even ask for it.)

40 bucks. Super good work. Also not going to post a picture because of PII. Great guy and I didn’t even have to wear a mask! That alone made it worth it.

Unfortunately not. Sorry.
I don't see a lot of recent activity on this page. Has anyone been to Crooked Finger in 2021? If so, do people still go there now? I live in Hubbard and am looking for somewhere to shoot. Thanks.

So is it open?
So, is the road clear? I have a bad hip and can't walk a mile or more much less a city block. I hope I can drive there now. Please let me know.

I believe it's open, look back thru info on Gooseneck. Somebody went up & did clean up / tree & limb removal after the storm
Do you repopulate AK barrels and then refinish?

Looking for an FFL to take a transfer from Rock Island Auctions for 3 handguns. Would need a copy of your FFL, or to have you send it to them.
What would you charge for that?
Thank you
Anyone know if the forest roads are open?
Is the range closed because of Covid?

Of course, shouldn’t policing our brass and ourselves be a given? Also I’m a disabled veterans so I think I get free access to state parks?

You still need to display a pass of some sort, but that very well could be.

While this could always change, there has not been any fee to enter or requirement of a State Parks parking permit to use the lanes. Unfortunately, the concept of 'pack it in, pack it out' is not a given at the lanes anymore. The efforts to keep the lanes clean requires multiple volunteer clean up efforts every year. The misuse of the lanes has only increased over the last few years as the popularity of the lanes has also increased. With COVID restrictions on organized clean up efforts along with a spike in use has unfortunately put us behind in our efforts.
Hello all,
I’ve been planning to take a trip up there sometime soon unfortunately it will likely be a weekend and from what I hear North Fork is pretty popular! First time driving/going to the shooting lanes I would like to do a 3 Gun Setup. Is it possible to do that on lane 3 or 4? Ideally I would like to setup my resetting .22 steel target at 50 yards, set up my paper target at 25 yards and another paper target 10-15 yards. I have all the stands and everything to hold them up. Is that possible to set all of that up on a single lane? Also is there specific days of the week in which you guys tend to see less traffic. I’m trying to maximize my chances considering it will be almost a 2 hour drive. Thanks guys!

Yes it is possible to set up multiple targets in one lane. As for performing any sort of three gun type coarse, it isn’t exactly recommended. There are Jersey barriers set up as designated “shoot from” locations. It is also recommended that all targets are placed so that all bullets impact the berm or in the direction of the berm. If you can set up a coarse of fire where all three stations are behind the Jersey barriers (shooting line) and the targets face in a direction that the rounds will be fired in the direction of the impact zones, have at it. Best times on the weekends to ensure a spot is O Dark 30, aka 4-5 am. Even then you’ll likely be competing with 1-2 others thinking the same. Just remember legal shooting hours are 30 minutes before sunrise.

Going forward, our plans for refreshing/redesigning lane 4 will remove the pistol length berm opening up the entire length of the lane for target set-up. There are several reasons for the protocol @Reno mentioned about staying behind the jersey barriers, first and most important, is safety. Since these lanes are open to the public without any oversight (i.e. range officers), there's nobody watching your six, the establishment of a singular firing line, in addition to adding with firing within the lane's perimeter, is the best way to ensure people don't end up in anyone's line of fire. Also, shooting forward of the firing line makes policing your brass (more importantly, shotgun shells), which we do expect, very difficult.
Hi Tim.

I recently picked up a Tikka T3x Superlite (223; stainless) and would like to have the barrel threaded to accept a YHM QD brake/suppressor mount. Are you open Saturdays for me to stop by and drop off the rifle?

Do I drop off the entire rifle, or just the barreled action?

Thank you.
Can powder coating be removed ? If so how is it done?
Thanks

What does it cost to have a firearm sent there? Transfer fee I suppose. Closer than Tigard Pawn.

Thanks!

@3MTA3 thank you for the reply. I purchased a lower and having it shipped there. Wanted to try it out and check it out. Just wondering what the fees where. I was charged 17 bucks shipping from PSA.
