(my open letter to the NRA)
Dear in NRA:

I had been a very proud member of your organization. Or rather, what I believed to be MY organization. I wore your hats, politely answered the phone when your paid telemarketers called. I even donated during the 2016 political campaign, and after senseless tragedies to fight off the anti-gun forces who want to take away 2nd Amendment freedoms. I bought Dana Loesch's book, and read it cover to cover...twice! You asked us to "Stand and Fight". I stood and fought, I stood on the street corner and held signs, I fought with my money for your or what I thought was MY cause. I stopped shopping at Dick's Sporting goods, and I canceled my NRA credit card the day First Bank announced they were no longer going to support your members with that service.
This all changed today, December 18th, 2018. Today the Trump Administration in the Department of Justice signed a new Rule to take effect in 90 days to Ban Bump-Stocks. Not only is this a terrible way to increase gun control, but the fact that you, YOU, did not make any effort to stop, alert or inform your members of this action saddens me greatly. You taught me to be vigilant, to stand up for what was right, and to fight for my freedoms, but when Trump's Administration pushes for Gun control, you crumple like a paper tiger. Shame on you!
Not only did they amend the Rules for the ATF, but they did it in a very questionable fashion, that sets a precedent for future gun restrictions, and you let them do it!! Why not have Congress Amend the 1935 gun control act instead? You could have bargained and made suppressors legal in exchange for bump stocks.
The last straw for me, was when I saw that on your NRA-ILA Page, NO MENTION of this act was published, anywhere....ANYWHERE on your site. But, when I look at the GOA website, they are planning to actually Stand and FIGHT against this bump stock ban with lawsuits.
Friends of mine have told me about the 1986 Hughes Amendment Debacle, and pointed out to me that the NRA will fold when it's expedient to do so, and by god they are right. So, if you fold on this, then I fold as well. I'm canceling my membership, and no longer will donate or support the NRA. I'm joining GOA, and will give them an extra bonus for standing up for me!

Ending one's NRA membership because they don't always do everything they way we like is very similar to sawing off the branch one is sitting on.

The NRA not only "did not make any effort to stop, alert or inform", "crumple" and "let them do it"; they are the ones who proposed such a change..................

NRA's Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox said:
"In the aftermath of the evil and senseless attack in Las Vegas, the American people are looking for answers as to how future tragedies can be prevented. Unfortunately, the first response from some politicians has been to call for more gun control. Banning guns from law-abiding Americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks. This is a fact that has been proven time and again in countries across the world. In Las Vegas, reports indicate that certain devices were used to modify the firearms involved. Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations. In an increasingly dangerous world, the NRA remains focused on our mission: strengthening Americans' Second Amendment freedom to defend themselves, their families and their communities. To that end, on behalf of our five million members across the country, we urge Congress to pass National Right-to-Carry reciprocity, which will allow law-abiding Americans to defend themselves and their families from acts of violence."

I am a Life Member of the NRA and I'm mad as hell at them.. seems like they talk the talk but won't walk the walk when it is time to fight. They don't seem to care about full-auto type weapons or now , a device invented to allow us to duplicate rapid fire on a SEMI-Auto gun. They get No more money from me and I will send funds to GOA and NAGR from now on and the NRA can kiss my grits ! Where is Ted Nugent when we need him screaming at the executive Bozos ???
Hundreds of thousands of law abiding bumpstock owners have committed no crime and because 1 criminal shoots people with one we are supposed to just turn em in or destroy them ? What happened to Majority rule in this country? This is a very dangerous precedent .
The 1934 NFA Law was written because of The Gangs/ Mob using them to wipe out the competition.
We need Thomas Jefferson ..."The remedy for evil men is not the abrogation of the rights of law abiding citizens. The remedy for evil men is the gallows." Thomas Jefferson

Just tossing this out there :
"Promises may get thee friends , but non-performance will turn them into enemies"
Benjamin Franklin

Now if only more Organizations and Political leaders would heed those words....

I upped to get a lifetime membership with the NRA this year.

Be it that they may had a fight in helping get bumpstocks kicked out, they are still a huge benefactor in our fight to keep and bear arms.

Saying they aren't is just plain ignorance.

Spreading this type of message only further hurts us.

Canceling your membership or donations only further hurts us.

Disappointed, fine. Disagree with me, fine.

Facts are facts. The NRA is the biggest guy in the fight.

I'm certainly against us giving up 1 inch as it's become a mile, but are bump stocks the hill to die on?
What angers me is the fact they are making those that bought them get rid of them w/o compensation.

I like and agree....but with that said...
This "Hill" is part of a long continuous "Mountain Chain" of unjust rulings , laws , requirements , bans and restrictions...
Who really knows just what straw , it was , that broke the camel's back...till it is broken...?

I suspect that.........

Because, a semi auto can be bump fired. Well, the LEFT used that as an excuse to regulate* "assault rifles" (aka: semi-auto rifles). Think I-1639. So of course, the next step (might take some time though) will be to outlaw all semi-autos.

*They'll be back.

-- by Martin Nimbler (with my additions for firearms)

First they came for the Socialists Bump Fire Stocks, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist had no Bump Fire Stocks.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists Semi-automatic firearms, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist had no Semi-automatic firearms.

Then they came for the Jews shotguns, rifles and revolvers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew did not own a shotgun, rifle or revolver.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me real weapons left to put up a fight with.

Aloha, Mark

.....Death from a thousand cuts.

We have to play the long game. That means we will win some and lose some and must pick our battles. It also means we don't throw away the organization that has done more to protect 2A rights than ANY organization ever.

Perhaps if everyone who has resigned the NRA in protest stayed and advocated for them, the NRA would be much larger and better able to fight for lesser issues like bump stocks.

lesser issues like bump stocks.

They have taken enough "issues" already. Don't you get it? ANY chip at our rights is flat wrong, period. You may consider this a lesser issue and you are part of the problem loosing more and more each year. Somebody was smart enough to figure out something like a bump stock using the ATF rules all the way until one nut case in Vegas that was part of a huge conspiracy in the first place. The ultimate goal all along was to ban these the day after Vegas. Pre planned....maybe?

You are wrong sir and I would advise you not to personally accuse people you do not know of being "part of the problem."

I thought personal insults were not allowed on this site?

I have not seen the NRA take a stance that I thought was "supporting the 2nd" in my lifetime.
