Bend is a city in, and the county seat of Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. It is the principal city of the Bend, Oregon Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bend is Central Oregon's largest city, and despite its modest size, is the de facto metropolis of the region, owing to the low population density of that area. Bend recorded a population of 76,693 at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census, up from 52,029 at the 2000 census. The estimated population of the city as of 2013 is 81,236. Bend's metro population was estimated at 165,954 as of July 1, 2013. The Bend MSA is the fifth largest metropolitan area in Oregon.
Bend is located on the eastern edge of the Cascade Range along the Deschutes River. Here the Ponderosa Pine forest transitions into the high desert, characterized by arid land, junipers, sagebrush, and bitter-brush. Originally a crossing point on the river, settlement began in the early 1900s. Bend was incorporated as a city in 1905. Economically, it started as a logging town but is now identified as a gateway for many outdoor sports, including mountain biking, fishing, hiking, camping, rock climbing, white-water rafting, skiing, paragliding, helicopter tours and golf. In 2015, Men's Journal ranked Bend as one of The 10 Best Places to Live Now.
I'm going to be down in Bend for a weekend later this month and would like to find a place to go shooting with a few friends.
I'm aware of Zimmerman pit, but that'll be a bit of a trek; we'll be Northeast of Bend/ southeast of Redmond and would prefer a spot closer to there...

19 dead elk found in Oregon were likely killed by avalanche, biologist says
I’ve been hiking there several times, one of my favorite places, and I’ve never seen elk there. Plenty of deer though.
Sad story for sure
Actually been lurking around the boards for a bit soaking up good information. Long time shooter, new hunter. Also fairly avid fisher out of Winchester Bay especially in the summer and fall. Always looking for good info on hunting (hoping to make the most of this year starting with spring...
I’m driving from pdx to bend this afternoon via hwy 20. I was considering doing some shooting along the way. Is there a good outdoor spot that is not covered with snow and not too far off Hwy 20 that someone would be willing to share?
Any good public ranges in/around Bend?

Just arrived, literally this weekend, to Bend OR from CA having fled, in part, 'gunmaggedon' (the inability to know/care if what I owned was legal or not...) - but also to set myself up for retirement in a few years and to share a new life with my wife, having raised two superb kids in CA.
I am a current student at Oregon State University (Go Beavs), and reside in Portland for the summers. I am new to the site and wanted to introduce myself. I am a California native, raised in Bend, and went to high school in Portland. I like to think of myself as an Oregonian now...
So I grew up coming to Bend for out family vacations and all my life wanted to live here so bad.
But last year and this year have changed that idea.
It seems to get worse every year from the californians and portland hipster/tree hugger crowd.
I think it's time to finally stop making the...
