gunsmith
A gunsmith is a person who repairs, modifies, designs, or builds guns. This occupation differs from an armorer. A gunsmith does factory level repairs, renovation (such as applying metal finishes), and makes modifications and alterations for special uses. Gunsmiths may also apply carvings, engravings and other decorative features to an otherwise finished gun. The environment in which all this takes place often varies depdending on the specific locality, with some gun stores featuring one or a handful of individuals while others resemble large scale specialty shops.
I have an older 38 Special S&W revolver (I believe it’s a model 1902) that has a timing issue. Supposedly from early 1930’s. A friend of mine took it to another gunsmith who said it needs an oversized arm but that’s not the issue. I live in Vancouver and am looking for a gunsmith who can help me...
I have all the parts to install a Skinner sight system on my Marlin 1894. I thought I would do it myself but decided that changing the front sight is beyond my very limited mechanical ability. So am looking for a gunsmith to do the whole job, preferably including bore-sighting.
Hello,
New to the site, not new to firearms. Mainly a hand gunner.
I just purchased a Ruger SP101 for my new night stand weapon. I want to take it to a Smith and get it cleaned up a bit. Namely the trigger.
I live in NE Portland. Any recommendations for a good gunsmith?
Thanks in...
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a local AR gunsmith to install a pinned Giessele Super Gas Block on a new barrel. Some drilling will definitely be required. I don't have the tools to do this myself and would like it to be done properly.
I haven't had a ton of luck...
The cylinder on my 19-3 does not turn smoothly when closed. It’s also hard to close, and she has about a 40lb trigger pull on most chambers. Bent ejector rod and pin, yoke? The action works fine without the cylinder installed.

I have a GP100 that I'd like to get reblued and possibly put new sites on as well as a mini 14 that I'd like to have the barrel checked for straightness (it shoots high and left of aim point) but the few gunsmiths I know of in this area, I do not trust to do a good job. Already had one gun...
The gunsmith forum seems to not get much traffic so I'll ask here. .17 MKII, Ruger action, VQ bolt and barrel. Can this be converted to HMR by simply reaming the barrel or are the bolts different?
I was sighting in my Howa 1500 .30-06 yesterday for deer season. After the barrel warmed up it started walking all over the target. I had it free-floated by Allison & Carey a couple years ago, but didn't go hunting last year, and I haven't had time to go to the range this year. What I...
My Friend inherited his dads old S&W service revolver and it won’t fire in double action. Velzey took a crack at it and was unable to fix it so we are looking for someone else to take it to. I’m guessing at this point he is probably going to have to send it back to S&W
I have an 1895GS, all SS, one of the newer Marlingtons. I want to rebarrel it with a longer octagonal barrel, and have some action work done. I am looking for recommendations for someone in Oregon, or Washington, that can do the work. Clements Custom Guns looks like they will do anything I...
Hello,
Does anyone know a gunsmith who does high quality work on 1911s? I have a Colt Competition I want to get prepared for USPSA Single Stack (trigger / action work, new slide stop, magazine release, bevel the well, new sights, etc.).
Thank you in advance for your input.
Robert
I recently picked up a Savage bolt action rifle, an unfired 111 fcns in 30-06
I then bought a bull barrel for it from a member here. Everything is good so far.
After looking at the cost of the equipment... vise, wrench, gauges, etc. I decided that I would just have a gunsmith install it since...
I have a RR SP1 conversion that has recently begun to fire in semi only. I can't seem to diagnose the problem. Any recommendations on an Oregon smith, not picky but closer to washington county preferred?
Forgive as a crosspost to the Gunsmithing forum, if an admin would clarify which is...
Looking for a gunsmith to fix the sight rib on a cz mallard 12gauge.
It is my girlfriends favorite gun and while cleaning it on sunday i noticed flux from the sight rib on the barrel and the rib is separating from the barrel.
Unfortunately the gun is discontinued and she loves it so much i...
I just acquired a S&W 686 CS 1 but the original front sight was replaced. These guns were made for the US Customs Service in the mid 80's & the Gov't spec called for a 1/10" vs. the standard 1/8" wide sight. I can get a replacement sight but it'll need to be shaved .0125" on both sides to make...
I am looking for a gunsmith that can turn and thread a Weatherby Mark 5 bolt so that a tac knob can be added. I am hoping that someone can provide a recommendation any where between Portland and Eugene.
Thanks Tom
I was wondering if anyone knows or knows of Master Gunsmith Grant Holly from Portland. I am trying to find information about him to assist in valuation of a rifle I have that was built by him? I could not find anything online about him, however the paperwork I have shows the gun was built in...
I recently got myself an SLR-100 with a welded muzzle cap (Clinton ban era). I want to deban it and put a muzzle device on but it's been extremely problematic so far. I dremeled off the cap which cause some loss of finish on the front sight block, and the front sight block pin for locking in the...
