My Dad paid $69 for it. The stock is absolutely gorgeous to behold.

Of course, paying $69 back in 1966 was equivalent to spending $504 in today's money. That is how much the value of the dollar has dropped.

So it was a very pricey rimfire.

Here are two more ads from 1957. I have both of these weapons in my safe although my Savage is from 1952 and is a .22 magnum/20 gauge combination. 1957 is spot on for my Woodsman Match, I inherited it from my uncle.

So it was considered to be a deactivated war trophy??

I must have missed something in my reading of WWII history. I had no idea that we had defeated Great Britain in the war.

I recall many of these ads pre-1968. I used to drool over the Solothurn ad, but Mom wouldn't hear of it, tough titty little kitty, you know. I mowed lawns for a summer and Dad and I went halfsies on a Marlin 39A, cost was $67.50 delivered to the door. At Christmas 1966 I bought a Lee-Enfield Jungle Carbine for $19.95 at Warshal's in Seattle. Dad fronted me ten bucks, but I bought it with my own money, right?

Next summer I was mowing yards for one of those $29.95 Lugers, and was getting ready to buy one, took a while for Mom to relent about the 16-year old getting a pistol, a rifle was OK, but a pistol was something else. The GCA of 1968 scotched the entire plan, never did get the Luger, cars and girls kind of became important things to spend money on.

Finally got the Luger some 20 years later, it cost more than $29.95, that's certain.

Thanks everyone. I really like to see these old ads. They were a big part of my childhood reading lessons back in the 1950's. Like the song says, "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end". Ya see where Bloomberg is considering running for Pres? Gag.
