I didn't read all of this thread so correct me if I'm wrong. If your just starting now for the upcoming laws that are going into affect you are way behind and are going to spend a sh!t pile of money trying to catch up!!

The same that you would buy at any other time.
Buy the gun that you want or have a use for....buy ammo for it and practice as often as you can.

If you buy because of a panic , pending ban etc...you may regret the purchase later , and if there is no "Grandfather Clause" or way to trade or sell , you may be stuck with a gun that you really don't like or be legal to own.

I concur on buying ammunition. It's reasonably priced now, and the concept of an ammunition card has been implemented in other States (e.g. FOID card in Illinois is required for a firearm or ammunition purchase).

Change subject. The House of Representatives has fallen into the hands of anti-gun fanatics. It's time to sight in, clean, and prepare a reliable firearm for long term storage and cache it, along with a supply of ammunition and accessories. Think of it as the working man's hedge fund.
