I recently ate a can of veggie beef stew (cold from the can) that was 6yrs past it "best if used by" date. It was just fine.

I have a bunch of Spam (in cans), and found one can that was slightly bulging.... for those who don't know, any degree of bulging on canned goods (new or old stock) are a no-go.

37 year old Twinkies. The cream filling was dry and crystalized and the cellophane crumbled as the package was opened.

And on another topic, I actually liked C-rat canned eggs!

I too ate WW2 C-Rations with the 4 packs of smokes.

Yeah, the cigarettes were dried out, but the rations were just fine.

Never ate MRE's.

I wonder if they're as good as WW2 C-Rations?

Yes, I actually liked C-Rations, mostly...

Some of the many names we had for MRE's were :
Meal Refusing to Evacuate ...
Might Require Emergency...
Meals Refused by Ethiopians...

Many were not not "bad"...I wouldn't call 'em "tasty"...but they filled the hole in yer gullet...and kept ya going.

My grandmother had some liquor left over from her father and she was born in 1920, he died, I'm assuming, in the 70s? So somewhere in that range though don't think liquor counts as far as old things for the sake of old
