It's the price of progress. We know more about more things and the access to information and misinformation is instantaneous so now we know about so many more things that can harm or kill us that we were so blissfully unaware of before. And as mankind is wont to do, we keep coming up with more and scarier ways to kill each other without any concomitant growth in morality.
