Here's a slightly different tact that was brought up on a podcast I was listening to this morning.

Nov comes. A bunch of states pledge their electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote, regardless of how their state's election results turn out. In a close vote - Trump repeats 2016 winning the electoral college while Biden has a handful more popular votes. A state like Michigan votes for Trump, but Whitmer pledges the state's electoral votes to Biden because he won other states and had a few million more popular votes.

Trump says "can't do that" and sues to stop it. Whitmer or whoever says "oh yes I can" and now you have two camps claiming victory, both claiming they won the electoral vote. SCOTUS would then have to decide who wins. Regardless of how they rule, half the country potentially thinks the election is invalid and stolen. Now it comes to counting heads. The podcaster ponders that in order to maintain some level of peace, the military removes Trump before SCOTUS rules, as riots and "protests" break out across the US.

In a similar vein to @Catherine1 - now you have two camps assembling their cabinets / leadership, and you have division among the ranks and now we're in a civil war. Trump would be the legitimate Commander in Chief till January 20th - but the podcaster posited that maybe the generals would overthrow him and remove him from office to appease the rioters. Scary proposition.

With how much the Constitution has been ignored and trampled on this year, and in recent history, and the average person not giving a damn, you have to wonder if those of us who care about it, and about our liberty are in the small minority. I will say that regardless of how 2020 turns out - 2024 is going to be far, far worse. I don't envision a peaceful transfer of power in this country ever again, unless the commies who have been burning cities and trying these "autonomous zones" are jailed, killed, or driven from the country. They have ratcheted up the violence, they're actively attempting to tear down our government from both the inside and outside, they're trying to erase history - and the majority of Americans seem OK with it.

Our country has experienced several instances of Faithless Electors of the Electoral College. Interestingly, the Constitution does not prohibit this and allows for electors to cast a vote for who they want. Rather, it is more of a state's issue and even though many prohibit this, there is no real enforcement of it.

I think it is just a bigger symptom that the system is broken on both sides as there is no personal responsibility or accountability for either. Rather, it is staying in power for the sake of power.

This is not how or why our country was founded. In fact, this is part of the reason some left England and Europe for freedom and why we revolted against English control.

I realize this thread has become political to a certain extent and some "what ifs", conspiracies, etc. My intent was not to go down that road, but to rather think about how vulnerable we might be as a country right now given all that is going on and the volatility around it. Whether it is from a foreign country/enemy or ourselves, I don't think it would take a whole lot to "put it over the edge" where recovery, if not improbable, would take at least a few generations. Then, what would it look like? European Socialism, Totalitarianism, Communism, Dictator, or a return to what makes/made this county great to begin with. As mentioned before, big events (9-11, etc.), natural disasters, and even wars have a way of uniting us together as a people. It is just sad to see so much potential being wasted because of this garbage. Our country, in its short history, has been a great example of what can be accomplished in looking forward, working together, overcoming obstacles, and yes, accepting and learning from our mistakes and dark times. In time, these current troubles will pass, but to what end and consequence? What does this county look like on the other side? As the sayings goes "Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst." and "Chance Favors the Prepared Mind." Even in this, enjoy and spend time with who and what is important in your life.

I did not post in this thread until now.

I am confused on why I was mentioned in it.

WHY is my name mentioned in this thread? Did someone confuse me for someone else here?

I do NOT advocate for a civil war!

I have NO clue if the S will hit the fan even more than now but I do THINK that it will.

I think that we are in a state of MASS CIVIL UNREST and NASTY national and NASTY foreign people are INVOLVED BIG TIME with money and punk criminal support.

I do support peace officers and our military. There are good and bad people in ALL professions just as there are in this country and AROUND THE WORLD.

I do support leaders who have a brain and common sense so that they will stop the insanity and rioting in this country.

WE have NO LEADERSHIP coming out of the D, R and other parties in MY not so humble opinion.

The inmates are running the asylum in the DISTRICT OF CRIMINALS, in the White House, in state capitols, in cities, in small towns and in most RURAL counties across this country.

Ivanka and Jared should have NEVER been allowed to be in the POSITION OF POWER that they are in now, in the past or in the future. BUT they are there and the President allows it. UGH! I lived it growing up in a conservative home and as a Nam Veteran's bride and, later on, as a widow not that long after 9/11 happened. TIME FRAME. That is why I mentioned this.

YOU have indoctrinated young people and brain washed OLD PEOPLE who want to do AWAY with things that made this country a shining example of FREEDOM and a welcome place for ALL people who may not be like you but you could still live in PEACE and keep your neighborhood NICE, CLEAN and SAFE.

YOU had a government that actually WORKED FOR YOU in most cases as public servants and I actually witnessed this as a kid growing up and as a young and middle aged lady.

I do NOT see it happening NOW and there is always an EXCUSE coming from the R and D leaders in MY community and in my state. Throw in the Federal excuses on WHY things are not handled in a timely and efficient manner.

And some people on the R and L still COVER THEIR EYES, live in a tunnel vision world, and are Pollyanna in their thinking because they believe that computers, software and the INFORMATION age is God's gift to mankind?!

The age of information and ALL of the computers in the world are NOT what is going to save or preserve a SOVEREIGN NATION. Will they help? Yes! BUT that is NOT the root cause or the MAIN solution to what ails this NATION.

By the way, most of my friends are VERY conservative, some are moderates, some are old fashioned Rs and Ds, some are small l and Large L Libertarians and I am HEARING what I just wrote/said from ALL OF THEM too. SO it is not only coming from MY MOUTH or one side or the other.

And MOST OF THEM are VERY pro gun people but some of them are not as hard core in the RKBA issue as I personally am. That is okay with me since it is their CHOICE not mine. Some own one gun, some own few guns and some own MANY guns. ALL of them know it is NOT about hunting. FREEDOM and the Second Amendment are not about hunting!

The moderators say to keep politics out of it but if the country is going down the TOILET in so many ways and from all sides... what they HECK would you call it? A cooking show? Blame it on too much garlic in the sauce or put the blame where it BELONGS?!

This feels more like orchestrated chaos this time around though. Too many useful idiots out there. I wish I was 20-30 years younger right now. You tell em old lady Cate! I agree with a lot of what you said! I have the same conservative roots. As folks can tell from my goofy picture, I try not to take things to seriously now days, life is too short. I call you old because I am there as well at 74. I'm still married to the same good woman since 1966! I've seen it all, (being a post WW2 baby). I believe in God, our country, our constitution, what our wise fore fathers stood for, and decry how it all is being systematically torn down or ignored. Every time I see a public servant be they police, fire, military, or just a local leader, I thank them for their service. I started doing this almost 40 years ago and still keep it up. My theory is a little praise is good for the good people serving. If they are bad maby my words will prick their conscience! Support, don't tear down.

The age of information and ALL of the computers in the world are NOT what is going to save or preserve a SOVEREIGN NATION. Will they help? Yes! BUT that is NOT the root cause or the MAIN solution to what ails this NATION.

By the way, most of my friends are VERY conservative, some are moderates, some are old fashioned Rs and Ds, some are small l and Large L Libertarians and I am HEARING what I just wrote/said from ALL OF THEM too. SO it is not only coming from MY MOUTH or one side or the other.

And MOST OF THEM are VERY pro gun people but some of them are not as hard core in the RKBA issue as I personally am. That is okay with me since it is their CHOICE not mine. Some own one gun, some own few guns and some own MANY guns. ALL of them know it is NOT about hunting. FREEDOM and the Second Amendment are not about hunting!

The moderators say to keep politics out of it but if the country is going down the TOILET in so many ways and from all sides... what they HECK would you call it? A cooking show? Blame it on too much garlic in the sauce or put the blame where it BELONGS?!

Thank you, Cate, for both posts. I agree with most of it. Much of the nation has lost its way and is so polarized on many issues it's gridlock and goes nowhere. I personally do not think government, laws, etc. are going to make it better because it is part of the problem. Only when we return our hearts to God, take accountability and responsibility for ourselves, use some common sense, elect those with integity and honor, and live accordingly, will we even have a chance. One way or the other, the end is coming and is a day closer. Again "Hope for the Best, Prepare for the Worst."

I too will be voting third party for a constitutinalist. Unfortunately, he dropped out so I will have to write him in (hint, he is the only libertarian, former Republican and Independent, serving in the House). I don't see how anyone who truly believes in this country and what it can stand for can continue to vote for either R or D. Third parties peel away votes? Good!

Enough of the politics for me, I just want my country back before it is too late.

The SCOTUS, just a couple weeks ago, didn't grant cert to ten 2A cases covering everything from carry rights to AWBs. I don't think installing judges is as surefire a path to 2A victory as it's painted, because we never know exactly where a particular justice is going to fall on an issue. I'll bet nobody expected Gorsuch to author a majority opinion expanding LGBTQ rights.

Trump banned bump stocks, and recent rumor has it that his ATF is coming for pistol braces. Trump also supported red flag laws. He's not an outright enemy of the 2A, but certainly is no friend.

Justice Roberts has proven that he will let us down when it counts most. The SCOTUS most likely weren't sure how Roberts would vote on 2A issues and did not want to risk a decision AGAINST gun rights that would hurt our side for many years, if not decades, so they played it safe and did nothing. Probably a smart move - they are waiting for another 2A friendly judge from our 2A friendly President.

FYI, you will not be voting for a constitutionalist if you vote 3rd party. You WILL be voting for JB. There a only 2 choices in US presidential elections.
