Pharm must only purchase the new and never been fired (outside of the factory) Firearms; many of us can only wish we could afford.:p Either that or he just might get one that has been used in a Crime and that would not be good. Hey, there's a picture in another thread about cheap Revolvers and I'm sure they were all Used in some type of crime.

No disrespect Pharm. If the rifle just didn't feel right to you, then there's no since in you having it. I get just the opposite feeling when I pack my m1917 in the field. Probably one of the reasons the rest of my rifles stay at home during hunting season...

That's exactly what I do.. get the barrel hot enough to burn some sage. Surefire way to cleanse any "evil spirits" that mighta glommed onto the rig.

not really

Short answer: No.

Many of the US rifles that are out there have been overhauled to the point of not being the same rifle that saw action...Also many rifles might not have seen any action or just 'cause it was in a combat theater , it still might have never fired a shot in anger...so to speak.

Maybe instead of thinking : "Did this rifle kill someone"....Think: "Did this rifle save a soldiers life?"

In addition to the many M1 rifles , Carbines , Springfield's and Enfield's not to neglect to mention the various 98's and 98K's I have owned...I have over 30 odd antique muzzleloaders...If I got rid of the guns that I thought might have been used to kill someone...I wouldn't own hardly any guns...

I like history and some guns have more history than others....I look at it this way:
If a rifle was used in a War...even if it was used to kill someone...that's just its history...I have it now and am caring for it...Soon I will just be part of its history.

To be even more blunt...I have four combat tours...I'd hate to think that someone would want get rid of me 'cause they thought I might have ended a opposing soldiers life....
Andy

Edit to add..
I am not trying to sound like a "male appendage" or snarky...that was not my intent.

Very well put.

Well enough, actually, to change my mind. Thank you for your response. And thank you for your service.

:). Poor barrel never got hot during this years elk hunt. She was cold as ice laying there in that grass...
A left handed P17.......that is one of my challenges, now as an old guy, I have a bunch of left hand rifles with no left hand grandkids. Nice looking rifle. My grandfather used his P17 primarily for elk, thinking it was too powerful for deer. He was funny about barrels and never would modify one saying the engineers knew what length, weight and twist worked for accuracy but he cut down the stock and macramed a sling for it. I love the original sights on the Enfields. The long sighting radius peep is incredible. It is always a little sad to see the ears and rear sights milled off. A stock barrel length and stock sights made for a tack driver without optics. Compared to a buckhorn sighted carbine of the day it must have been considered a true long range rifle.

Thank you and you are very welcome...It was my pleasure ( most of the time ) to serve.
And thank you for taking my post in with the intent and spirit it was sent in...:D
Andy

I tend to read posts assuming good intent. Besides, anyone who put themselves in harm's way for me and mine gets all the consideration in the world.

Finally got around to putting the new barrel on the ol' Eddystone. Hopefully this one shoots better than the last. Took me a few months to clean the shop/garage so I could get to my lathe.

Now, if I could only find the handguards...

Haha! Found the handguards. Only looked in the correct place six times before I saw them...

Have to get to the range soon to see if this barrel corrected my issue...

Good Luck at the Range! It's been WAY too long since I have been but when a person can't stand without feeling a great deal of pain, well...

I'm having another type of PAIN, from Not having been Shooting in Two :eek::eek:Years!!!:eek::eek: A simple fracture(according to the so called Specialist) of the right ankle has gotten me Three Trips to the OR with a Fourth coming up in November. She was SOOOOO wrong and I'm the one paying for the bad diagnosis!:mad::mad:

I'm not even able to spend 30 minutes in my Shop these days - 10 to 15 maybe but only if I can sit down while I am there. Enough rant, I guess.

Nice rifle mountain bear. I'm a sucker for sporterized m1917's though. Sorry guys, I'm biased since that's what I started out on. I'm also a sucker for the nice one that comes along with a left handed stock. I snagged this one up off of GB this week. $295.00. The guy that sold it to me said I got "the best deal on gunbroker":

It's almost a twin to the one I have:

I'm going to replace the vented recoil pad with a red pachmayr (like the one I installed on my other 1917 in the above pic), upgrade to a timney trigger, change mounts and probably use a set of Burris Zee rings like my other 1917 has. I'll also glass bed the rifle, as per my norm and i'll bet she's going to be a dang good shooter. I'll post a few target pics and more of the rifle when I'm done. Probably sometime after elk season. Yes, I'll probably get rid of the white line spacer too... Maybe :D

Does this count as a sporterized Enfield? Trench modified, recovered in Europe, on display at the Springfield Armory Museum.

I need to find about half a dozen small parts and I should be able to recreate this. Have the lock, stock, and barrel. Need the front sight assembly, the lower hand guard, and the spring and axle for the rear sight.
