To put things in perspective Cairo is a city of aprox 8 million, the estimates of both sides combined in the riots is 250k, its a damn big riot but has yet to turn into a full blow revolution. In more important news the current administration has sold out Egypt the UK and spun the employment numbers so bad even MSNBC got dizzy..... but lets talk more about anderson cooper....

I doubt we will go there with troop. Especially with the big O in power. If Egypt goes others will follow. Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, maybe Iran. They will all in time turn fundamentalist. Next will be a war with Israel.

No really. There are different rules under the UN and we/they are classified as UN troops and have different ROE's.

That is pretty much the current trend, so I would expect it. A couple of decades ago in the Middle East you had a choice of major powers you could hate - Russia or the U.S. (And always Israel of course). Now that Russia is mostly out of the picture it is, politically speaking, important to be anti-U.S. (and our Middle East policies contribute significantly to that). So expect whichever new dictator comes along to be anti-U.S. (at least publicly).

As a side-note, when I worked over there (before the first Gulf War) I was amused at the the small things you witnessed behind the scenes. The theme, as most people know, was always "hate Israel." But what amused me was the palaces in Riyadh used fruits and vegetables that were grown in Israel. The kitchen removed the "grown in Israel" label prior to serving them (Heard that one from the palace's European chef). Oh, and one of the Egyptians who worked with us liked to comment on the boots he wore. Apparently they had been supplied to him by the Egyptian military. He really liked them - he thought they were "made in the U.S.A.". Nope. I had a pair myself. They were made in Israel. Things like that always made me laugh.

There will be no peace in the Middle East until the US holds ALL countries to the same standard of behavior. By supporting stability through dictatorships and unwavering support for Israel we only fuel the hate these regimes engender. The fundamentalists on both sides, Muslim and Jewish, will not allow reason to prevail since they refuse to see any point which does not toe the line in their particular religious texts. Those who think Israel is a staunch ally of the US should remember that they will turn on us in an instant if they think it serves their purpose. Never forget that Israel is the only country in that region who has used their armed forces to attack and kill Americans.

It's a tough situation no matter what and until people are fully aware of the situation and see the need to change their life styles, and by extension the way the country is ran, there's a very real chance that it doesn't end well. A few million people get unemployment/food stamps/etc. cut way back and they will have no choice but to take to the streets. When they are cold and hungry they are all going to go some place and they are going to have very little left to lose.

If Egypt falls shipping insurance for the Suez Canal will increase driving the price of oil higher, precious metal prices will spike, shipping and production costs will spike, food, medicine, everything will increase in cost, again. More jobs will be lost. Crime will increase.
If the Suez Canal falls into the hands of Islamo-Fascists there will be a war, perhaps a very large war involving Europe and Israel.
