Hello Gentlemen (and Ladies),
I've lurked on NWFA for a couple years now, and have learned so much about firearms in general. I recently asked a question in the Ammo/Reloading forum and got a bunch of great responses, so I'm feeling more comfortable asking for opinions on the following topic:
QUESTION:
Which caliber should I expand to next?
I'm not necessarily asking about what type of firearm to purchase next, but I'm not opposed to suggestions within your caliber responses.
I'm leaning towards purchasing a 12-gauge shotgun because it serves many functions (self-defense, use in Multi-Gun competitions, recreational fun, variety of ammunition, hunting) but want the thoughts of the community, who has lifetimes more experience than I do!
Some background to my question/request:

Some background to my question/request:
- I'm fairly new (3-ish years) to the firearms world
- I'm not a mechanical person by nature, and definitely not a gunsmith or reloader
- I have a very basic understanding of how ammo/guns work
- Right now, I only shoot/own 9mm (chosen due to cost per round, availability, defensive capability, and popularity/ability to locate in a crisis)
- Right now, I only shoot/own Glock pistols (chosen due to reliability, interchangeability of parts and magazines, ease of operation, ease of maintenance, and popularity/ability to locate parts in a crisis)
- I also own a PCC (a 9mm FX-9 pistol-variant that takes Glock mags and has an 8" barrel)
- I took a "Guns 101" course at my local range a few years ago as a bucket list item and got hooked. I have my CCP, and have taken several successive courses (102, 103, etc)
- I'm interested in getting into competition and have already shot several GSSF matches (which I realize isn't the "Big Leagues") and would eventually like to expand to the other "initials." (IDXJQ, IPQJX or whatever... once I'm better, I'll start researching those organizations)
- While I'm not building a bomb shelter in my back yard (not that there's anything wrong with that)... I do believe in being prepared, and planning ahead.
- I am not a hunter, and have no plans on becoming one, unless SHTF.
- I chose to focus on one caliber initially to save $$ (I'm poor) and limit the amount of storage space I need, as I live in a small apartment.
