As for what can be done, past behavior is an indicator, hundreds if not thousands of calls, emails, letters, written testimony and in person testimony only get gun owners more and more frustrated. Non-responsive legislators, legislators that do respond with "I or we know what's better for you than you do". It's all an 18 wheeler of fermented BS.

Legislators became unaccountable when the balance of power shifted, giving democrats total control. He!! Even recall efforts have been successfully thwarted by SoS's that are in the governors pocket. The only voice they hear is the voice that's in agreement with them and their agenda. Period.

I agree with @Ura-Ki the only why this is stopped and corrected is by a physical show of force. They won't understand anything else. Self-serving vermin that needs to be tarred and feathered...

If that is "the only way", then explain how the Republican walkout stopped it last time. Because it did.

A walkout can stop it this time too, if we convince the Republicans that we want one.

SB554 has been amended to include the lock up bill and repeal of state preemption, and an emergency clause has been added. We can thank Fred Girod and the other five Republican traitors who gave the Democrats the ability to vote on this bill by NOT walking out.

So, in one bill you are now required to leave your CHL weapon at home if you are going anywhere near a school, the airport, the post office, the social security office, a university, and God only knows where else, to keep all of your firearms locked up or disabled whenever they are not on your person, and local entities, from cities and counties on down to presumably school districts, utility districts, and soil conservation districts, will be allowed to create a patchwork of unfathomable regulations about every aspect of firearm ownership, from concealed carry to purchasing, registration, licensing, mandatory liability insurance, gun free zones, etc.

The 2nd Amendment will effectively be repealed in Oregon.

All this spearheaded by that complete Democratic nut job, Ginny Burdick and her accomplices like Prozanski, Kotek, and Courtney. We are so completely screwed!

This is a good test case for the Ninth Circus who unbelievably did overturn a blivit of California's kookooforkokopuphs Draconian gun regulations. This has all the makings of the next Heller case. To the loony-tune child legislators of Oregon: Careful what you wish for.

LOL. And Auntie Kate iz gonna send the big bad Troopers after them to round 'em up and physically deliver them to the State House floor... so much for defunding the police!

Republicans have turn-coated, don't count on that spineless bunch to stand up to the democrats. They've already proven this legislative session they'll allow themselves to be walked all over...

What's the next option?

#APAC All Politicians Are Cu-ts.

Never said I was "counting on it." I said it can be done.

They can still walk out. In legislatures, it ain't over till it's over. Lot of bluff. Lot of horse trading. Initial enthusiasm or reluctance or opposition can vanish in the wind due to some new circumstance or deal... or pressure. For example, adding lots of other bad stuff to a bill may suddenly give someone the excuse they need to oppose, or give them cover to walk out.

Past behavior is no indicator with politicians. They are not that principled or trustworthy.

Agreed, the walkout prevented the last round of gun control. The problem was that it was also the only thing that prevented the last round of gun control, and that was a little too close for comfort. There has been more indication of waffling by the R's this time, which is what makes their silence to their constituents feel rather uneasy. We need to keep the pressure on them to do the right thing, but we also need to demand that they stop retreating and start taking back ground. Otherwise it leaves freedom and constitution loving Oregonians and Americans in a precarious position, with their backs to a cliff and very few diplomatic options left. Without diplomacy, the remaining options become very scary very quickly.

Would be interesting to take a survey here and see how many would become instant criminal felons if these measures passed. No high cap mags (10+), no suppressors, no AR platform (pistol grip, detachable mag) to name a few. I'm betting it would be a high percentage.

Count me in as an instant felon!
And as such, I aim to misbehave a bunch!
Try this one on: FAL Semi Auto BLACK SBR Suppressed, 20 round detachable mags, folding stock, detachable optic, pistol grip, heat shield/barrel shroud hand guard, threaded muzzle, and that shoulder thingy that goes up!

Quite possibly true. On the other hand, and maybe I'm being naive here, there could still be things happening behind closed doors to stop the gun bills, and it's easy to misinterpret actions inside the capitol as an outsider. For example, here's a post I saw recently on another OR firearm forum that is supposedly from a (R) legislator:

Yup, yer on the short list for sure! Especially with that shoulder thingy that goes up :s0140:
But don't feel bad my friend, many of us will be right there with you!

I would venture to guess that the vast majority of members here would become instant felons. Just one 11 round magazine would do the trick.

Limiting box magazines to 10 rounds really speaks to how asinine these proposed laws are. Pick some arbitrary number of rounds and declare that the limit for detachable magazines. Or a pistol grip... There's no thought process put into it, just what appears to be scary.

Imagine if all the scary features of the scary black rifles were produced in walnut. Your favorite AR configuration in deep blues steel and walnut. Would they still be scary? Emotional legislation, thats what we're dealing with here... My Lord how far has this country fallen from it pinnacle of greatness. We now legislate on "emotions" :s0054:

Demoncraps (progressive/socialist/communists) don't listen to the opposition, especially when they are a majority or super-majority. To Hell with anyone who opposes their agenda.

"We cannot negotiate with those who say, 'What's mine is mine, and what's yours is negotiable.'" JFK

Speaking only for myself: I have something to lose, ie I am a law-abiding citizen and I value my assests and my personal freedom. I sent all my 10+ magazines to my dad in AZ when CA enacted their hi-cap ban... the same one that was eventually overturned by the Ninth Circus. The children who run Oregon cynically know that criminals don't care if they're caught with "contraband," and that all these new rules are just an "f-you because we despise you and your damn self-sufficiency and because we can." They know, absolutely, that none of what they are proposing will lower Oregon's already very low violent crime rates. And they don't care: Their objective is not to make you safer as they disingenuously bark into news cameras... but rather to make you bend to their will, to drink their Kool Aid... either by choice or by force.

I will not give them the satisfaction of surrendering either my lawfully-obtained personal proerty or my personal freedom. I will leave this state and my tax dollars will go with me. They can have the cesspool they're so hell bent on creating.

Which forum is that?

Two Anti-Gun Bills Combined And Passed Out Of Committee

The final version was made public only hours before the work session and after the public could comment on it. That's transparency at work.

The bill now goes to the full House for a vote.

If the bill is brought to the floor as expected, it will pass. Bills like this do not get to the floor unless Kotek knows she has the votes. So if it makes it to the floor the only thing the House Republicans can do is walk out and deny a quorum, something most Senate Republicans refused to do when the bill was in the Senate.

The amended version of the bill combines the attacks on law abiding gun owners of SB 554 with the attacks on gun owners that were in HB 2510.

Having only one bill to screw gun owners while rewarding criminals, is less time consuming than having to run both bills and saves the Senate the hassle of dealing with a House bill.

Under the new version you will still need to lock up your guns and you will still be responsible for crimes committed with stolen guns. Because in Oregon, we don't punish criminals, only gun owners.

There were some changes made in the prohibitions on public buildings. Now instead of all public buildings being off limits, you only face prison time and a loss of gun rights if you visit our (your) capitol, a school, or an airport terminal. We have no doubts many Republicans will consider this a massive victory.

The amended bill contains this language:

"(3) 'Control' means, in relation to a firearm:

"(a) That the owner or possessor of the firearm is close enough to the firearm to prevent another person who is not an authorized person from obtaining the firearm; or

"(b) That the owner or possessor of the firearm is in the person's own residence, either alone or with only authorized persons who also live in the residence and who are not minors, and the residence is secure.

The drafter of this bill insists that this means that a minor can be an "authorized person." The committee accepted that explanation. We simply cannot see how they can reach that conclusion.

Because of delays in the House caused by a report that someone, somewhere, was exposed to covid, (or maybe exposed to someone who was exposed) we cannot tell you when this bill will reach the floor.

If it passes out of the House it will need to go back to the Senate because of the changes.

So, at this point both the House and Senate Republican leaders STILL have the power to kill this bill. The ball is in their court.
