Did any fictional work directly impact your preparations?

The book Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle (1977, science fiction) was pretty eye opening when I first read it many years ago. It follows a diverse group of people who survive a massive comet strike on Earth, and the story covers how they live during the following apocalypse. It goes into great detail about a lot of the challenges people would face with a complete societal and infrastructure breakdown.

It's a little long in the tooth now, of course, but still a good and thought provoking read.
