There are lots of Democrat voters that own semi-auto firearms - whether grandpa's old 1911 or M1 Garand, the old 10/22's, the Marlin 60's, and so many others. Aside from being unconstitutional as well as impossible to enforce, it would be political suicide to implement a ban of this type. In 1994, the Clinton AWB cost Democrats heavily at the ballot box. There was huge blowback from voters and tons of Democrats lost their seats in congress. It went too far then, it will be too far now.

Dems know there is no chance for this to pass with Republicans in control of the senate and Trump in the WH, so they're safe to push a ridiculous bill they know for a fact will never become law. It's pandering to their anti-gun friends, plain and simple. Just like the Republicans that pushed over and over to end Obamacare, so long as they knew Obama would veto anything they put through. Once they had control, they wimped out and stopped pushing their legislation.

This is saber rattling, nothing more. I won't get worked up about it. They don't have the votes. They don't have the influence. And, they don't want to lose the election. They may be fools, many of them, but they're not stupid.

I'd bet that after The War for America's Independence (plus others like: War of 1812, WW1, WW2 etc...) being anti-gun was tantamount to being Anti-American. Was it VN that changed things? Ooops....that's going down another pathway. So anyway, note the Dems party platform today.

Preventing Gun Violence
With 33,000 Americans dying every year**, Democrats believe that we must finally take sensible action to address gun violence. While responsible gun ownership is part of the fabric of many communities, too many families in America have suffered from gun violence. We can respect the rights of responsible gun owners while keeping our communities safe. To build on the success of the lifesaving Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, we will expand and strengthen background checks and close dangerous loopholes in our current laws; repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) to revoke the dangerous legal immunity protections gun makers and sellers now enjoy; and keep weapons of war—such as assault weapons and large capacity ammunition magazines (LCAM's)—off our streets. We will fight back against attempts to make it harder for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to revoke federal licenses from law breaking gun dealers, and ensure guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists, intimate partner abusers, other violent criminals, and those with severe mental health issues. There is insufficient research on effective gun prevention policies, which is why the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must have the resources it needs to study gun violence as a public health issue.

Of course, getting this far, was only possible by a reinterpretation of the 2nd A.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, unless I say it's reasonable.

"Stupid"

IMHO, I don't think so. I believe that it's more like American History and the connections to the 2nd A isn't being thoroughly examined in schools.

Then Note: the distain in which the 2nd A is held in, by the membership of the NEA (Teachers Union).

NEA members polled support background checks and bans on assault weapons and high capacity magazine clips.
  • 90 percent of NEA members favor a proposal to require background checks before people can buy guns at gun shows or from other private sellers, including 85 percent who strongly back this proposal.
  • 76 percent of NEA members support a proposal to ban the sale and possession of military-style semi-automatic assault weapons to everyone except the police and military, including 70 percent who strongly favor this proposal.
  • 69 percent of NEA members back a proposal to ban the sale and possession of high capacity magazine clips, which allow some guns to shoot more than 10 bullets before they need to be reloaded, including 64 percent who strongly support this proposal.

Not to mention......

Now a days (in the public schools mostly) besides educating kids in general, reading, writing and arithmetic, kids are indoctrinated to the ideas of the LEFT at a very early age. Teaching and not teaching certain subjects is just a part of how it's all accomplished. Ever wonder how/why it's come to be that way?

One of the most influential men in our American public education system was John Dewey, best known as "the father of modern education." Dewey was a dedicated socialist and a member of 15 Marxist organizations. He taught those that trained America's teachers.

Dewey believed that it was not possible to make socialists out of individuals. Therefore, developing children into being able to think for themselves would, as he put it, "spoil the harmony of the collective society."

The National Education Association that honored Dewey for his contributions to education, previously stated, "We stand for socializing the individual."

The organization firmly believes that, "The major function of the school is the social orientation of the individual… Education must operate according to a well-formulated social policy."

One of the association's specialists, Paul Haubner, once stated that, "The schools cannot allow parents to influence the kind of values-education their children receive in school; that is what is wrong with those who say there is a universal system of values. Our goals are incompatible with theirs. We must change their values."

More recently, Chester M. Pierce, M.D., Professor of Education and Psychiatry at Harvard, believed that every child entering school is essentially mentally ill because the child comes to school with certain "allegiances to our Founding Fathers, toward our elected officials, toward his parents, toward a belief in a supernatural being, and toward the sovereignty of this nation as a separate entity."

Pierce strongly believed that it was up to teachers to make all of these sick children well, "by creating the international child of the future."

Mind you that I'm not saying that the teachers are solely to blame. But, when you think about it...….if you start the kids off while they are young enough. Well, their minds could probably be molded to accept pretty much anything. Case in point: The "Hitlerjugend"

The word you're looking for is "critical pedagogy" and it's scary/depressing as hell.

I'm just going to say this:

I'm a teacher. I was never asked to take that poll. I don't brainwash my students against guns or liberty. I think polls like that and any brainwashing is happening with the minority of SJW, A-Type, fringe teachers. In 7 years of teaching, I've only met 2 teachers and 1 principal that was anti-gun or a SJW.

I also don't think it was ever going to be about mass confiscations. Its about legislation that makes most pwople fear becoming criminals and "getting out of the game" before getting arrested. Then its gradual small confiscations until we're effectively neutered. Maybe two generations from now. All because we won't fight individually, and can't ever agree to do anything collectively.

I agree...
Having been teaching for 12 years now...I have never been asked to take a poll that dealt with firearms.

Nor do I brainwash my students either...I however do encourage them to research a topic and not to take a stance , just 'cause someone tells them , which way to stand on any given issue.

The stereotype of the anti gun / anti American teacher is just that , a stereotype...
Just like the stereotype of the gun owner , who is racist....again a stereotype.
Andy

The democrats might as well file a bill to ban all firearms.

That is what they want to do.

Throw in some Rs to that D. ILK of gun control/people control. They are out there salivating for more CONTROL and it does not only pertain to GUNS.

Cate

Even more reason to be concerned. Same casual attitude. I do not want another assault rifle ban like we have already experienced once in our lifetimes. It's time to hold the politicians accountable. Unite to vote the anti-gun politicians out of office. Or who knows it may be too late.

"Mike"

Point taken but we are talking a national level here not just at state level.

Didn't the British first seize property without compensation, refuse representation, and then try to disarm us... the same order of events that have been happening now? Guess they want a repeat.

I'd almost respect the left more if they would just come out with their own declaration of independence, constitution, and bill of rights. Put it out for all to see. No more of this sneaky backdoor stuff.

Welp, there's always an armed revolt as an alternative to being ruled by the elites...

Republicans need to stand firm in protecting the Second Amendment, and in doing so will cost the democrats big time in November 2020, did they not learn in the last presidential election?

Probablem is, your average Republican pol is rather Father Maurice-ish:
"We don't have the balls for that!"
