CA judge rules semi-auto rifles not protected under 2nd Amendment

Staton called the rifles "incredibly effective killing machines" that are not needed for self-defense

She decided that semi-automatic rifles should be deemed "dangerous and unusual weapons" that are used in military service, not civilian homes, and therefore not protected by the Second Amendment.

In her ruling, Staton "cited congressional findings that semi-automatic rifles have a rate of fire, 300 to 500 rounds per minute, that makes them 'virtually undistinguishable' from machine guns, and that they are the 'weapons of choice' for gangs, hate groups, and 'mentally deranged persons bent on mass murder,'" the San Francisco Chronicle described.

She added that there is clear evidence that the bullets fired by semi-automatic rifles "can pass through both humans and buildings and therefore pose a greater risk of striking innocent bystanders."

Another judge who should be disbarred for clear incompetence. Let's see what part of the right to keep and have arms does this clown not understand.
Obviously the judge never really cared about the constitution in the first place.

Once we are left with bolt actions, they will state they are way to freaking fast to shoot as if they completely forgot about the semis.

God forbid they learn about pump actions or lever guns.

Imagine them foaming at the mouth about modifying lever guns to short stroke, because we all know they have about .0005% of an understanding of how guns work.

This is exactly why we need them as well.

That, and this is America. The 2A amendment isn't about what guns we need. It's about having enough weaponry to fight back against a tyrannical government, and/or any other threat that may come against a free man or woman.

Give me a predator drone, and Minigun B!

Yet another inept judge ruled by emotion and not facts nor any grounding understanding of history nor any adherence to oaths taken. Sad really.

Was a cannon with grapeshot in the past more or less lethal than a semi-automatic .22 Tomcat today? Was a .58 caliber musket ball more or less lethal than a 5.56 round?

Did our forefathers not understand ballistics and know, quite well, that citizens would require modern weaponry to have any hope of maintaining liberty in the face of tyranny?

So how does she feel about slugs from a Biden Special.

Shooting them from a semi auto somehow makes them more dangerous now? Holy dumbassery Batman.

At close range, there's almost nothing more effective than a 12 gauge with buckshot, firing 9+ pellets. Under certain circumstances it's more effective than "semi-auto" rifles and handguns. That technology is generally about centuries old. How about a bolt action .300 Win Mag? Under many circumstances that's a heck of lot more effective than a Glock 9mm with a pile of magazines. See the problem with ignorant anti-gun liberals wielding power is just like this judge. Too stupid to learn or understand or apply logic, facts, common sense, history, etc. Making decisions based purely on emotions.

The Germans cried pretty hard about trench guns in WWI.

I wish people would understand that they're only making themselves vulnerable to tyranny and oppression when they don't allow people to possess the same weapons that could be used against them. I'm sick of feel good short sighted political rhetoric.

She thought that a bullet button increases the rate of fire. It is a magazine release which requires the tip of a bullet to release, a government imposed obstacle to normal magazine changes. She is a federal judge, not a California judge, and just happens to be assigned to a district in California. A factually absurd ruling. The legal rationale, that lethal weapons can be banned, turns the Constitution on its head. The entire point of the 2A is so that citizens can defend themselves using lethal force.
