Survivalism is a social movement of individuals or groups (called survivalists or preppers) who proactively prepare for emergencies, including natural disasters, as well as disruptions to social, political, or economic order. Preparations may anticipate short-term scenarios or long-term, on scales ranging from personal adversity, to local disruption of services, to international or global catastrophe. Survivalism may be limited to preparing for a personal emergency, such as job loss or being stranded in the wild or under adverse weather conditions. The emphasis is on self-reliance, stockpiling supplies, and gaining survival knowledge and skills. Survivalists often acquire emergency medical and self-defense training, stockpile food and water, prepare to become self-sufficient, and build structures such as survival retreats or underground shelters that may help them survive a catastrophe.
Use of the term survivalist dates from the early 1980s.

Well, I want to get us set up with some solar power systems and I could use some advice. I've done a bit of reading on the topic, talked to some folks, and got some quotes, but I'm still looking to make sure we do it right.
A bit of background first: our family is preparedness-oriented and we...
I find my GHB is in a continuous state of evolution. This is something I learned to accept on deplyment: your kit can always be improved and adjusted. Personally, I am leaning more towards a low profile set up. I work in Seattle, which as some of you know a progressive paradise focused on...
Howdy all. I thought it might be interesting to discuss various realistic SHTF books. By realistic I mean the the plot involves a disaster that could happen in real life. That would include things that have happened (e.g., natural disasters, economic collapse, war, etc.), have happened but not...
