barrel length
A sawed-off shotgun also called a sawn-off shotgun and a short-barreled shotgun, is a type of shotgun with a shorter gun barrel—typically under 18 inches—and often a shortened or absent stock. Despite the colloquial term, barrels do not, strictly speaking, have to be shortened with a saw. Barrels can be manufactured at shorter lengths as an alternative to traditional, longer barrels. This makes them easier to transport due to their smaller profile and lighter weight. The design also makes the weapon easy to maneuver in cramped spaces, a feature sought by military close quarters combat units, law enforcement SWAT team users, and home defense purposes. As a result of the shorter barrel length, any sawed-off shotgun with a magazine tube will have its capacity reduced.
In the 1930s, the United States, Britain and Canada mandated that a permit be required to own these firearms. They are subject to legal restrictions depending upon jurisdiction. They are used by military forces and police agencies worldwide.
How much does shotgun barrel length really matter for 3 gun? I'm looking at buying a shotgun that can be used for both competition and home defense so I'm wondering how much barrel length really matters. Seems like you'd want a longer barrel for more accuracy, but a shorter barrel for better...
Hey all, I’ve being arguing with my cousin about best barrel length for the 300blk rd.
I own a savage PCS 300blk, they’ve got a 10.5” length 1in8” twist. In every test I’ve read savage is the best bolt action pistol for accuracy right now beating Q, elf owl, etc. I chose bolt action for sound...
Can you legally put a 16” AR15 rifle upper onto an ar15 registered pistol lower in oregon. Google says no but you used to be able to do this. Is tgis really illegal now?
Without a doubt, the best AR-15 barrel length is 20" for 5.56x45mm preferably in 1 in 9 or 1 in 7 RBT. I apologize to my SBR friends, but the 20" barrel is perfection. With a 5.56 scream out with a 3100fps and with increased accuracy and range, it's truly amazing for this rifle platform. I...
I have a lill Savage 93SS Bull barrel currently at 21” barrel. I’m very satisfied with the accuracy. 100yrds with VMAX 30 & 45grn Critical Defense and surprise to me cheap Federal 40 grn does much better at 200yrs
It’s a range toy and kind tinfoil hat survival rifle with fun “gear” in the...
Thought about this the other day and couldn't find a direct answer when searching.
Question-
what is the legality of shortening the mossberg 590 shockwave barrel?
also-
doing modifications such as adding a longer barrel, adding a pistol grip, and or a stock?
The shockwave is classified as a...
So I am SBR stamping a lower w/10.5" upper, can I use a 16" upper on it and swap back the the 10.5" without an issue?
Sounds like a dumb question but the rules the ATF runs on are not consistent.
What are the minuses of having a SBR stamp?
Many of us have seen this compared before, usually starting with a 30"-34" barrel. MDT came out with a fun, semi-scientific test a few days ago where they started with a 72" .308 barrel. I won't give any spoilers, but thought it was interesting enough to share the video.
I am thinking about ordering a $70 stainless steel 16" 7.62x39 barrel for an AR15 bench set up. Normally I would go longer for a bench rifle upper but the selection for inexpensive 7.62x39 barrels longer than 16-18 inches is very limited.
This guy tested some factory steel cased rounds out of a...

Ok guys and gals, I'm going to order a Barrett 99 and they have basically 2 options... A 29" fluted barrel and a 32" heavy profile barrel. There is a 3lb difference in the 2 models, so is this something I'll notice in the recoil of the rifle very much? I expect it to be a stout punch in the...
Do rifle’s perform better when barrels are longer? In other words, is there a correlation between barrel length and bullet performance?
We’ve all heard it before: “Velocity will decrease _____ (fill in the blank) feet per second for every inch shorter the barrel.” Matched by the inverse, that...
I recently watched a youtube video where the creator started with a 25 inch long 350 Legend Barrel and recorded velocities of factory Winchester Ammo. He then cut off an inch at a time and continued to record velocities down to 7 inch barrel length. Is there a one stop source that has this type...
So, a few years back I got into the .44 Magnum and am glad I did as it is likely my favorite cartridge at the present. We have a couple carbines and a revolver in said. (Sold off an automatic pistol in said last year.)
I've been kicking around a stainless, single-action wheelgun in said...
