barrel length
A sawed-off shotgun also called a sawn-off shotgun and a short-barreled shotgun, is a type of shotgun with a shorter gun barrel—typically under 18 inches—and often a shortened or absent stock. Despite the colloquial term, barrels do not, strictly speaking, have to be shortened with a saw. Barrels can be manufactured at shorter lengths as an alternative to traditional, longer barrels. This makes them easier to transport due to their smaller profile and lighter weight. The design also makes the weapon easy to maneuver in cramped spaces, a feature sought by military close quarters combat units, law enforcement SWAT team users, and home defense purposes. As a result of the shorter barrel length, any sawed-off shotgun with a magazine tube will have its capacity reduced.
In the 1930s, the United States, Britain and Canada mandated that a permit be required to own these firearms. They are subject to legal restrictions depending upon jurisdiction. They are used by military forces and police agencies worldwide.
I want to pick up a .280AI barrel for my T/C Encore and can't decide on the which length to get. I want the barrel to be long enough to reap the benefits of the cartridge without hitting the point of diminishing return. Factor barrel come in 24", 26" and 28" lengths, but I'll most likely go with...
Like the title says, I'm building an AR Pistol and I'm hoping to get some advice from people who have experience with different calibers and barrel lengths.
Here is what I'm looking at (bullet points for easier reading):
- Barrel length between 7.5"-11.5"
- 300blk, .223/5.56, or 9mm.
-...
For many years I considered a handgun to be my primary defense firearm, with rifles falling into a more hobby oriented category. After attending the Clallam County Citizen Firearms Safety Course with the Sheriff Dept last year, my frame of mind did a 180...
Everybody ran through several...
I'm looking to build my first AR pistol in 300blk and am seeing that the ideal barrel length is 9" - that little is gained by stretching longer while less would let the bullet leave before all of the powder is combusted.
My question is, what happens if one were to use, say, a 5" barrel and a...
I’ve been shopping around for a new over/under for clay sports. Most everyone I’ve talked to has either implied or flat out informed me that I “want” a 30 or 32 inch barrel. I see very little benefit to a longer barrel other than weight. I’m a big guy (6’5”) and it feels like most people have...
