I am thinking about ordering a $70 stainless steel 16" 7.62x39 barrel for an AR15 bench set up. Normally I would go longer for a bench rifle upper but the selection for inexpensive 7.62x39 barrels longer than 16-18 inches is very limited.

This guy tested some factory steel cased rounds out of a test barrel beginning at 24" of length and cut it down to 16.5". He only found about 100fps difference. Would those velocity spreads be much different with slower powder?

Is a 1:10 twist suitable for 150gr projectiles.

1:10 is pretty standard for .308 and so are 150gr bullets so I'd imagine it'd be more or less suitable for x39.

Perhaps you should put that $70 towards what you've already put on your card, though. Buying just because it's inexpensive doesn't seem like a great plan.
