Here's an idea stop lumping all liberals and learn the difference between a liberal and a leftist. I'm a liberal ,and I probably own nicer firearms then a lot of you. I probably fought for our rights more than some of the you.
That might be a good start.
I have been trying to use the term antis in place of other identifiers since antis can come from all sorts of political and lifestyle persuasions.

On a larger level, we get that.

However, if your last ballot had checks next to Carolyn Long or Monica Stonier, etc... Therein lies the problem when it comes to guns.
Can't fault you for voting what you believe... But don't act like some kind of 2nd Amendment warrior and the work to put those in office who will happily disarm all of us

And how do you know who I voted for?

US Congress has been behind the curve in enacting new anti-gun legislation. Soon that may change. Anybody contemplating moving to another state to escape certain gun laws should consider this.

Dennis Prager has a brilliant take on the difference between Leftists and Liberals. I've tried to embrace it, but I am an opinionated and bitter old fart at only 50 who has seen too many people hide behind the label of "liberal" as an excuse to take away my freedoms and my rights and destroy communities.

What is the difference between a leftist and a liberal?

Answering this question is vital to understanding the crisis facing America and the West today. Yet few seem able to do it. I offer the following as a guide.

Here's the first thing to know: The two have almost nothing in common.

On the contrary, liberalism has far more in common with conservatism than it does with leftism. The left has appropriated the word "liberal" so effectively that almost everyone — liberals, leftists and conservatives — thinks they are synonymous.

But they aren't. Let's look at some important examples.

Race: This is perhaps the most obvious of the many moral differences between liberalism and leftism. The essence of the liberal position on race was that the color of one's skin is insignificant. To liberals of a generation ago, only racists believed that race is intrinsically significant. However, to the left, the notion that race is insignificant is itself racist. Thus, the University of California officially regards the statement "There is only one race, the human race" as racist. For that reason, liberals were passionately committed to racial integration. Liberals should be sickened by the existence of black dormitories and separate black graduations on university campuses.

Capitalism: Liberals have always been pro capitalism, recognizing it for what it is: the only economic means of lifting great numbers out of poverty. Liberals did often view government as able to play a bigger role in lifting people out of poverty than conservatives, but they were never opposed to capitalism, and they were never for socialism. Opposition to capitalism and advocacy of socialism are leftist values.

Nationalism: Liberals deeply believed in the nation-state, whether their nation was the United States, Great Britain or France. The left has always opposed nationalism because leftism is rooted in class solidarity, not national solidarity. The left has contempt for nationalism, seeing in it intellectual and moral primitivism at best, and the road to fascism at worst. Liberals always wanted to protect American sovereignty and borders. The notion of open borders would have struck a liberal as just as objectionable as it does a conservative. It is emblematic of our time that the left-wing writers of Superman comics had Superman announce a few years ago, "I intend to speak before the United Nations tomorrow and inform them that I am renouncing my American citizenship." When the writers of Superman were liberal, Superman was not only an American but one who fought for "Truth, justice, and the American way." But in his announcement, he explained that motto is "not enough anymore."

View of America: Liberals venerated America. Watch American films from the 1930s through the 1950s and you will be watching overtly patriotic, America-celebrating films — virtually all produced, directed and acted in by liberals. Liberals well understand that America is imperfect, but they agree with a liberal icon named Abraham Lincoln that America is "the last best hope of earth."

To the left, America is essentially a racist, sexist, violent, homophobic, xenophobic and Islamophobic country. The left around the world loathe America, and it is hard to imagine why the American left would differ in this one way from fellow leftists around the world. Leftists often take offense at having their love of America doubted. But those left-wing descriptions of America are not the only reason to assume that the left has more contempt than love for America. The left's view of America was encapsulated in then-presidential candidate Barack Obama's statement in 2008. "We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America," he said.

Now, if you were to meet a man who said that he wanted to fundamentally transform his wife, or a woman who said that about her husband, would you assume that either loved their spouse? Of course not.

Free speech: The difference between the left and liberals regarding free speech is as dramatic as the difference regarding race. No one was more committed than American liberals to the famous statement "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Liberals still are. But the left is leading the first nationwide suppression of free speech in American history — from the universities to Google to almost every other institution and place of work. It claims to only oppose hate speech. But protecting the right of person A to say what person B deems objectionable is the entire point of free speech.

Western civilization: Liberals have a deep love of Western civilization. They taught it at virtually every university and celebrated its unique moral, ethical, philosophical, artistic, musical and literary achievements. No liberal would have joined the leftist Rev. Jesse Jackson in chanting at Stanford University: "Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Western civ has got to go." The most revered liberal in American history is probably former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who frequently cited the need to protect not just Western civilization but Christian civilization. Yet leftists unanimously denounced President Donald Trump for his speech in Warsaw, Poland, in which he spoke of protecting Western civilization. They argued not only that Western civilization is not superior to any other civilization but also that it is no more than a euphemism for white supremacy.

Judaism and Christianity: Liberals knew and appreciated the Judeo-Christian roots of American civilization. They themselves went to church or synagogue, or at the very least appreciated that most of their fellow Americans did. The contempt that the left has — and has always had — for religion (except for Islam today) is not something with which a liberal would ever have identified.

If the left is not defeated, American and Western civilization will not survive. But the left will not be defeated until good liberals understand this and join the fight. Dear liberals: Conservatives are not your enemy. The left is.

If what Prager said is correct, liberals are gone... there are no more. If leftists have appropriated the word liberal, then leftist now = liberal. Old time liberals are gone, too bad. I liked those guys.

The reality is that in today's world, when the avg person speaks of a liberal, they understand it as socialist/commie/leftist/ecofreak. If there are any old line liberals left, they need to be fighting the leftists, and trying to educate the world that they still exist. IMO they will have as much luck with that as we are trying to change minds about gun ownershiip.

PNWGuy, I don't sense any disparagement of AZ here; and you are correct that the state of AZ isn't monolithic by any standard. The reality is, as misguided as it may be, if you ask the average Josephine if she'll need a winter coat for an AZ trip, chances are the answer will be a resounding NO!

Then they're stupid, because even in the desert where it might 120* in the heat of the day it can drop to near or even below freezing at night. It is not uncommon 70-80+ degree temperature change within a 24 hour period.

I said Oregon was toasted on the 2A over ten years ago and got plenty of flak over it, well here it is. Do as you will, call it what you want, but I'll be living my last days is a gun friendly state.

We can split hairs on AZ climate all day and twice on Sunday, most people consider AZ to be hot, and they are right. Most people want to be outdoors during daylight hours, it's hot in AZ during daylight hours. It's no more complicated than that.

Then they have never been there and/or are too lazy to google. The last two times I was on I-40 it look just like the pictures on post #115. Many areas there have no cell service. You break down and start wandering without a coat and there's a good chance you'll not be found until the next spring.

I guess we all have to ask ourselves what our personal plan is if Oregon decides to adopt draconian new gun restrictions. I already own the guns I have always wanted and have plenty of magazines and ammo for them. If my firearms and magazines are suddenly no longer legal to own, I have to decide what I want to do about that. I have no intention of pulling up stakes and leaving the state. I don't want to flee because of some a$$hat politician wants to score brownie points with the Portland liberal elite.
If the state is willing to give me full cash value for my weapons, mags, accessories, and ammo, maybe (maybe not) I'd be willing to discuss things, but I already know that will never happen, so I'm left with some decision making to do. Hopefully, we gun people can collectively get our act together and get this legislative crap stopped before it becomes law. If we cannot, then I suspect that serious trouble is headed for Oregon.

We shouldn't be Running. I moved here (Washington) because in 2012, I made an executive decision this is where I wanted to retire. First step in that analysis was checking the gun laws. We need to stand up and fight.

The ones taking our guns aren't the Legislators as much as it is the very few and very rich individuals who are lining their campaign pockets. Just take a look at the Alliance for Gun Safety Victory fund in the Washington state PDC. Senator Dinghra had received the benefit of $20K+ worth marketing advertising supporting her by that victory fund. Then immediately in this year's session, she sponsors all of their agenda items. So if that isn't a conflict of interest or ethics issue I don't know what is. We know Washington's Attorney General wont protect us, because he's lined just as deep by these funds.

So I ask you all, who's making the laws? Our Legislators or these Over-funded organizations lobbying for what they think we should have as an adequate set of rights (as if we are their subjects). Just because the venture capitalist doesn't like guns, doesn't mean they have the right to make our great state look the way they want it. They should have to move, they have the money!

Second we need to take the fight to the 14th and 9th Amendment. The legislation just waves their hand and calls us right wing extremists when we talk about the second. We need to fund a law suit to take the states banning of goods and services beyond gun control and make it an argument that states very simply:

"We the people are united in the fact that we are divided, but no state shall the ability to take our freedoms or liberties generally available to all US Citizens"

(40/50 states can buy high capacity magazines, pro choice, pro speech etc.) We need legislation that protects us as we shouldn't have to move from one state to another just because we all don't think alike. Ownership and Purchasing goods and services whether firearms or not, should be protected by our US Citizenship, not the state.

What we need to do is march down to the Alliance for Gun Responsibility and take our protest to their front door. Write them angry letters. I have.

Well stated...Welcome to NWFA also.
