@Catherine1 ....pretty funny when folks talk about being free. Yeah, to an extent but not really......Landowner ? .....what happens when you don't supplement the crown? Right down to cities that outlaw straws and hand out free syringes on the same day..... Its death by a thousand cuts, very slow death almost unnoticed. Its all control , once they figure out how to disarm the last armed citizens on earth its going to get interesting. You sound like good people and wise, need more like you that's for sure .

Malheur? You are implying that a group of ranchers who chose to fight big government over them taking away land rights and making ranchers so poor they cannot continue to ranch? Or perhaps your referring to them getting their property confiscated & sold to China all because the property is rich in minerals (mineral rights). How far would YOU go if tyrannical government colluded to take away your lively hood and confiscate your land because the greedy bas-tards want the mineral riches your land possesses??? That's the real reason ranches in Eastern Oregon AND South-Eastern Nevada were both attacked by big gov! And your talking about thresholds? Thresholds for what? How long you will stand by or even support tyrannical socialist power-hungry criminals in government? Hello! Are you awake or has the red pill and drinking the socialist koolaid long ago numbed your sense of right and wrong? Folks banding together and fighting tyranical government is what started our country!
I have no need with that whole situation... I was only using it as an example of the state NOT charging them under that statute.

It was not a commentary on anything else

This has been an good topic. I'm not too surprised that opinions vary, but find some of the language interesting. I don't feel like I "turned tail" or "ran" from anything. If anything, I was running TOWARD a better life for my family and myself. It wasn't an impulsive or reactionary decision, it was cumulative over time. My daughter was 5th generation Oregonian, so I have roots too. But people are still somewhat nomadic by nature. All of us come from immigrants who made a decision to find a better situation somewhere else.

Most of us wouldn't stay in a toxic relationship if we knew our partner was never going to change. We probably wouldn't stay at a job where our boss kept working us harder for less pay and benefits. And if we lived in a bad neighborhood we'd probably want to move to the other side of the tracks.

I said in an earlier post, moving isn't for everyone. But it worked out for me.
Leaving a sinking ship doesn't make me feel like less of a "patriot". I'll help my new state stay free for as long as possible. This country is changing and those of us who prefer to stand on our own two feet are becoming a minority.

So for those that either can't move or just prefer to stay due to family or work, I understand. I really do. And keep fighting. You may slow down some of the madness but make no mistake, the coast is lost.

Well said.
My 'people' have been in Oregon since 1900 or so and most of my family will never leave but I cannot tolerate or condone the madness inflicted on the state by the likes of Portland/Multnomah wackos.
At 69 years young I will leave for a better life and peace of mind, trusting that my new home will remain 'free' for the remainder of my days. I will sell everything possible and take everything else with me, including the money that Kate and crew would like to spend.
Side note; After seeing the failure of the CA split I see no future for the state of Jefferson so will not wait for a miracle.

Like I said... this is so very true! Thank you.

I am still reading through this thread.

PS: SIDE NOTE and Not to the poster who I just quoted. TAXES would be my main motivator for moving now. But how do you escape that? You can't - you end up in jail unless you give up your U.S. citizenship. Loopholes? My aching butt! Plus there are issues in doing that as an EX pat. And at my age, old lady - 68 years old, do I want to leave the USA? Some other countries pay higher taxes and GET more in return or a better return. But some of them are turning into _ holes too! Others - you pay less and can live okay but you still may end up in another ' ---- hole' if another dictator comes into power. The bad thing is that those countries still have lousy GUN laws and KNIFE laws too.

Cate, I am enjoying your posts! Keep it up!!

My buds have talked about moving to other countries... but they have concluded that there is NO country that allows as much variation in self defense tools as we have here in the good ol USA. Will that change... if leftists have their way yes it will. Not much Oregonians can do to stop them. Maybe the exodus will strengthen remaining bastions of independent thinking states like Montana, Idaho, Wyoming. Wishing you all the best!!!

Watch Dave Rubin's You Tube Channel or look up "Intellectual Dark Web"

Re: Dave Rubin... watched about 10min of his Q&A session at Oxford. Interesting guy. One thing, he talked about the diff between "classical liberal" and "Libertarian"... note the capital I used to spell Libertarian. Because on the one hand he is talking about an ideological or philisophical (sp) position, then he compares that to a political party. I would have preferred he didn't compare it to the craziness (IMO) of the party. I like small "l" libertarianism, and I suspect I would enjoy the company of classic liberals... members of the Libertarian Party, not so much. Better than the New Deal Socialists or the progressive Dems and even some Repubs I know.

Interesting take. Watching him and the guests he interviews has allowed me to see what "Classic Liberals" are all about and it's really helped me understand the difference between True Liberals and Leftists. The interviews with Eric Weinstein we're especially good. Glad you enjoyed them.

It's very relevant that you categorized the Malhuer situation in a bad light. Our country was founded on resistance to tyranical government!
Im not characterizing it negatively. In fact, I agree with the whole thing...

My point is, from the states perspective, these guys and the 3% groups that showed up, etc... Could be considered as ''paramilitary" under the statute.

However, the state never pursued that as one of the charges... Nor do they go after any of the other known 'militia' groups here.

Making the point to the person who originally cited the statute as a response to my call for organizing an opposition...

That if the state didn't use that law against the Malheur crew or to actively shut down 3%ers, etc... That we could probably do okay with organizing an opposition to this crap.

I know a lot of ink has been spilled here as to whether it's time to move, and where to move to. If a person decides it's time move on, the next big question is how long do they get to enjoy life in the new place before it too becomes ruined by this plaque?

I got to thinking, could I become an RV-rat and live where I'm free until I'm not, then just pack up and leave? Lots of folks live this nomadic lifestyle today in the US, albeit perhaps not for the same reasons I might consider it.

Clearly it may not be an option for the young folks with a family and a job or two, but for us retired, or close to it geezers, it may not be out of the question. Gonna start looking for a rig that can haul my gun safe :p

I'm old and I just don't feel like moving anymore. I moved here to escape Kalifornia about seven years ago because I was burned out from years of fighting the socialist insanity.

But if you don't move East.. how are you gonna throw poo with the rest of us, at the lefties across the river?
When they take over Eastern Oregon ? :s0112: :s0030:

Cate, Thank you for articulating a lot of what many of us are feeling. (Am writing from Madison C., MT, watching the next storm weave in off the Tobacco's.) As a 69 yo woman, married to a C-survivor, at least MT's disease is spreading slower. We still have serious roots in OR and we contribute what we can, write letters to deaf politicians of every stripe, and do what we can to annoy the LIBERAL/ PROGRESSIVE anti's. The fight is not over, and yes...it is spreading everywhere. Tester used to be pretty solid until he took DNC funds to win last time. What a country!

Here's an idea stop lumping all liberals and learn the difference between a liberal and a leftist. I'm a liberal ,and I probably own nicer firearms then a lot of you. I probably fought for our rights more than some of the you. That might be a good start.

I am one of those that see Liberal = Democrat.
The reasoning is there exist a group called Democrats, and being a liberal is an idea.
Its not even a culture, like the gun culture is. However this idea of Liberalism is and was embraced
as the poster child wordage of being a Democrat = Liberal mind set.
The easy way to be a liberal and not be lumped in to the Democrat agenda, is to fight the Democrats
and tell them to stop using this language. From a conservatives point of view there is no clear distinction between
being a Liberal and Being a Democrat and this cohesion was created by Democrats, not by Conservatives nor Republicans.
Its not fair, nor is everyone assuming every Conservative, owns a pickup and owns a Confederate flag.( I just so happen to lol ),
has no education, and voted for Trump. The LGC, view this as such, and have stated as such to me. Its not good for either side, but neither is the cause and effect from one side only. Just a FYI, owning a gun doesn't make someone pro-gun, nor an enthusiast.

Yes. I will probably watch more. A little bit at a time. Short attention span!!!

We were snowbirds for a few years (hauled all my guns with me) until my health (glaucoma) made it so I cannot drive a 36' triple slide 5th in heavy traffic (Vegas, Phoenix), nor drive hour after hour to get there. However, we did meet a lot of fulltimers (year round trailer life) and they enjoyed what they were doing. Some lasted longer than others, the avg go 5yrs and are sick of it, just plain sick, or decide they need a fixed base home for all their stuff.

My best advice is to keep a place to go back to. Even if it is just to store your stuff. But doctors that know your case is important as you age.

This is something that is a small puzzle to me, the age of the average 2nd Amendment Rights supporter.
Its an unknown to me. But as we all get older will their be others to hold that torch? I am still young enough, and strong enough to fight. But I can even tell from just ten years ago, some wind is being knocked each time, but I get up take another swing.
