"Never let a tragedy go to waste!" The mantra of the Left Wing. "Guns are BAD"." "Take all guns away!" Well, they did that in the UK and look at the statistics on violence. Knives, machetes, clubs make up the weapons of choice for the criminals in Britain. Search the statistics; the interviews of street hoods and the citizens who want to protect their homes. Hey Biden, Pelosi, Schoomer and the rest...IT AIN'T THE GUNS! Pass all the anti-gun laws you want, but it won't change anything. Stop releasing serious criminals because they "Had an unhappy childhood." And for those who don't know...an AR15 is NOT a military rifle. On Uvalde...I'll wait for the complete investigation report to decide what went wrong. Blessings to the victims and their families.:(
Well stated.
I believe that these highly politicized shooting investigations are all about covering up what "Really Happened". No one in them are ever tried in a court of law for their actions.

Methinks it's time for the parents to take a stand there and take action. Parents tazed? Handcuffed? For trying to do save the kids which is what the police should have been doing? That is way beyond the line...

Yes this is a tremendous lawsuit waiting to happen. Plus criminal charges should be filed against those officers who tazed and/or arrested the parents.

Still a bit early to make locked down opinions.

The media - Covid 19 vaccines will stop the spread. Response - Uh right

Also the media - Cops stood around while children are being killed. Response - Damn cops.

Time will tell. But as of now it's not looking good. I hope things turn out to be different though. Even if it's solely for the sake of perception of LE through the lense of the society.

How is it too early? The official police press conference and timeline said shooter entered the building at 11:33 after shooting at people outside and 3 police entered the same door as shooter 2 minutes later. 4 more police entered a few minutes later. Within 15 minutes there were 19 police outside the room he was in. He was not shot until 12:58 pm, roughly 90 minutes later. Cowardice, incompetence, and criminal negligence.

Lots of good comments and perspectives here. I'm going to throw out a different one. Think most of you on this thread know I'm retire LEO. One of my professional jobs for the past several years has been to provide safety risk assessments for at schools...related to traffic. Typing up two reports right now between postings here. Schools have a massive problem managing pedestrian and vehicle traffic daily...and then throw in WhoHoo Flu protocols for the past two years.

School shootings fall into the high risk / low frequency category. Nobody wants to deal with these issues because they are low frequency and who wants to be "put out" with the extra work since they nearly never happen?

I've spent significant time around schools over the past 15 years. Most of them I've visited have a 0% chance of becoming hard targets. The design and architecture dates to a time before we are currently in. At every school hundreds if not thousands of students need to enter the campus. After school the same number need to exit. Covid protocols (where each student had their temp tested) caused chaos at some schools. Schools have to deal with child custody issues with parents, bringing in emergency medical staff, fire risk; my point is that there are LOTS of moving parts of which school shootings fall far down the radar for most parents, teachers and administrators. They do not want to deal with low frequency risks compared to the daily grind of drop off and pick up. Not saying it is correct thinking, but I've seen school make a relatively minor change to enhance traffic safety and parents respond with pitchforks and torches.

Not to diminish the tragedy and loss of life at this event whatsoever, but how many young people 18 and under are killed in traffic events in Texas annually? 313 in 2020. These fall under high risk / high frequency events, sadly.

This thread has members thoroughly confused. Back the blue, or not?

Blind obedience works best for blind people.
I still STRONGLY back blue. Many cites are seeing first hand what happens when they push "lets hate all cops". My feeling towards them does NOT make me excuse incompetence, or corruption though. Certainly looks like plenty of incompetence and probably downright cowardice to go around in this incident. If its as bad as it "looks"? Lot of people who should NEVER have had the job as an LEO. Sadly again the voters keep getting what they ask for. The job has been so heavily political for a LONG time now. Hiring is so often done on a "we need to check boxes" not who is best.

"...raced to the school from nearly 70 miles away..."

Allowing for the maximum amount of time in the calculation, from "...at 11:33..." to "...at 12:10..." that's 37 minutes... Hmmm...

70 miles in 37 minutes pencils out to in excess of 113 mph average speed, which would have to be sustained (for the entire 37 minutes). Sump'n ain't addin' up...

From about 11:33 to 12:10... that's 37 minutes... Hmmm...

That pencils out to in excess of 115 mph sustained for the entire 37 minutes. Sump'n ain't addin' up...
As so often happens a LOT of lying was being done right from the start. The biggest problem with that is of course there is no way to just sweep something like this under the rug. So of course all that lying soon comes back to haunt those who were trying to cover up what happened. Soon no one will believe ANYTHING the people speaking say about any of this. Because they tried to do a LOT of CYA, they now look like morons and worse. This one will keep an army of lawyers busy for a decade. Not to mention those who lost loved ones? They will have to live with always wondering was it completely preventable? :(

Looking at map that is a barren wasteland between those small towns. Having driven barren wastelands without the benefit of sirens or any kind of escort, I think it is very doable personally. I could comment on how I know this but some people get offended if you drive over the speed limit even if it's deserted roads so I won't comment on it (plus it will send me on the rabbit hole of talking about fast cars from the past he he).

As an engineer, whenever I see articles like this containing numbers, I always run the calcs as sort of a "sniff test" to see if the reporting is credible.
I don't know what the highway/roads look like from Del Rio to Uvalde, but I'm pretty sure no CBP agents drove a sustained 113.5 mph for 37 minutes.
