It's a sad thing that we are seeing this fall apart in our lifetimes. The public outcry against guns fueled by propaganda and violent outbursts is a hard thing to buck. As someone else said, if it comes to Oregon, Monkey see, Monkey do, it will likely come to Washington. California has had it since, what, 1999?

Oh, we should be so fortunate for a turn-in like they had in Australia. Gun owners there were compensated for their loss. The Australian constitution has a clause guaranteeing just compensation, which we also have in the Fifth Amendment to our Constitution. But I did a bit of reading on this, there is case law that goes way back that excludes compensation for seizure or surrender that is ordered in the interest of public safety. I'm not an attorney but to the best of my recollection, that's what I read some time ago. So as to firearms, we are not protected under the Fifth Amendment. Or maybe a big, new court case could change this, who knows. But for now, registered "assault rifles" die with their owners in California, they must be turned in or destroyed upon the death of their owners, no inheritance rights. This is a back-door way of avoiding the just compensation issue. They won't take it, they just won't let your estate get it.

Moving to avoid compliance? How many times are you willing to relocate as more states go this route or if similar restrictions come about federally? It's a question that each individual must answer for himself, what is more important in life. One guy said above something like, he can't move yet, his kids are still in high school. Yeah, and not long after there may be grandchildren then your wife won't let you move away because your kids and grandkids are here, etc. I've been through all this noise in my own life already or I'd be living in Nevada or Montana right now.

Civil disobedience. That's what non-compliance is called. This is another decision that is made individually. Yes, there are lots of people in states with restrictions who have chosen not to obey. Getting caught may be on a low order of probability but there is always chance, fluke, or just plain bad luck. Legal problems of this sort get expensive in a hurry.

Another issue for me is, if I can't use it, how can I enjoy having it?

Guys again, if this happens you can lay the blame right at the feet of other gun owners. The ones who refuse to vote well. They either will not vote, toss the vote, or even worse start down the "well we just need to give in to some common sense laws". I have been watching this my entire life and it never changes. Maybe if they pass this it will wake up some but I am staring to have my doubts. If OR does get it WA will certainly try. If they get it here ID is already looking great, one of our kids moved there recently, may get me to pack up and head there too. Of course problem is the people who brought this to OR and WA will follow too. This is how it works. Liberals turn the place they live into a sewer. So they move. Then they start in trying to turn the new home into the same sewer they left. I hope more gun owners will remember this come mid terms. Liberalism truly is a mental disorder. They keep doing the same things over and over and really do expect a different result each time they try it. Sad.

I know the options. Keeping them at home and hope there is never a fire. Or a by chance robbery and the perp tells were he got them.
Not worth the chance of becoming a felon.

That's what they count on!! Either you believe in your Civil Rights, or NOT. Many good men have given their lives so you can have that right. If ever there was meaning in the phrase: "Either we stand together, or hang separately", now is the time!! Do you own any "scoped sniper rifles"??

Put your "Big Boy" pants on and take a stand!!

Well said!

Its time to pop out of your comfort zone and put some effort into this fight. I believe its winnable. Tired of hearing "oh it doesnt effect me really" or "oh ill just move, screw everyone else" those kind of things just make people apathetic. And boys, we are all stocked up on apathy here in the firearms community.

While my wife says that it will never pass, she would be willing to move to different state, but for me being "a lifelong Oregonian" (since moving here in 71) moving would be tough as I have told people where else can you drive an hour and half and be at the mountains or the beach!!!

Im going to cut loose ALL my democratic friends that keep voting for the retardation that has become the democratic party

THATS THE ONLY THING I WILL CHANGE..... oh yeah and that includes this democrat and socialist ridden site

see ya in the funny papers boys !

At the risk of alienating , offending or causing a fuss here... ( none of which is my intent )

We as gun owners and also the gun companies need to take a long hard look at ourselves to see just what if any part we have played in getting laws or initiatives like Initiative 43 passed or proposed.

I am not talking about what political party you vote for...but more long the lines of how we as gun owners and guns in general are perceived.

It has been a long standing stereotype of the media to portray a gun owner as a buffoon , the butt of jokes , small minded , or even more sinister as a racist , violent person.
Many of us grew up laughing at the antics of Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny....while we as gun owners know that isn't how one hunts or shoots...to many anti-gun people that is just what a hunter or gun owner is , a dopey , shoot at anything slayer of animals.
Just how many books , movies or TV shows , show the gun owner in a bad light or with dangerous habits?
Perception is often greater than the truth of the matter , for many people.

I have been flamed before when saying this , but when you are out and about doing anything with a gun you are representing all gun owners.
Many people have no real contact with guns or gun owners and if they see one gun owner in a negative light , they can think that all gun owners are that way.
Again how one person or an action is perceived , can affect how all people of a certain view are seen.

I am not saying that one has to allow for insults or take anyone's sh!t when doing something with a gun...just be careful in what you say or or do.
A in your face attitude or comment , even if it sounds good at the moment , does nothing to further a positive image of guns and gun owners.
No need to go and use the opposition's bad behavior when expounding on the " Why" of why we like to own and use firearms.

How firearm companies market their products can also be used against us.
When a certain firearm is only shown to used in a limited applications or the use of trendy words or images , which also equate the gun in question to a highly specialized role ...then one can get the idea that the gun in question can only be used for one purpose.

We need options now to fight initiatives like Initiative 43 before they become law.
We need a more mainstreamed viewed positive image of guns and gun owners , now.
A better educated general public on :
The role and history of firearms in America...
The actual way a gun functions...
How one goes about buying a firearm...
Just how does a gun law / ban / restriction / regulation work ...or not as the case may be...
How the majority of gun owners are law abiding people , who want to harm no one...
How any gun if misused , is harmful...there are no guns that are "more deadly" than others...
A non biased look at the numbers of guns used or owned safely versus the numbers of criminals who use guns...
Just how gun owners are doing their part in maintaining public shooting areas or offering a safety course...

We need to take a look at what we have done in the past to see if it has blocked Initiatives like 43 from passing or if what we are doing to promote a positive image of guns and gun owners , to the general , non gun owning public is working...

Again I mean no offense to anyone.
Andy

When SB941 came about it set the stage for going after our guns. I pointed it out in another thread and who I felt was responsible only to be chastised by the crew here as a trouble maker. It's all good because now everyone is getting a first hand look at what they voted for if they voted for democrats. The sky is falling isn't it.:D

I guess it's a shame that elections do have consequences and the only good thing I see is everyone is going to feel them. First there is the cost, what will it cost you personally to give up what you legally bought? Those high dollar guns are either going to be sold for pennies on the dollar or given away for nothing. All the magazines will be a felony to own and all the scopes and red dots worthless unless you spend more money to buy a gun to use them on. Will those guns be the next ones to be called in?

So the thread is what will you do, one way or another you will pay through the nose when this law passes. Either you give up your guns or live under the threat of a felony every day of your life. You will wonder every day who you might have ticked off enough to turn you in. You will wonder if the ex or a friend turned you in because life changes. All those pictures of your guns you posted here will be evidence against you. All your buying and selling in the classifieds will be used as evidence against you. Nothing goes away on the net.

Maybe before you figure out what you will do you might want to figure out how they will come after your guns.:D

I been here since I was born here in 57 I own outright my house in Silverton. And come hell or high water I'm not leaving. NOR are any of the Firearms I have paid real money for. If they think they can steal thousands of dollars from me and my descendants I got some big news for them.

You buy something legally paying all the state charges, taxes , even when doing trades or private sales you pay for all the fees like the background check and transfer. Then a few months later your a felon for what you legally purchased. WTF? Sounds like a set up.

I agree Mark, my Dad was born and raised in Oregon City and after retiring from the Navy in 71 we moved back to Oregon. While I love Hawaii and would love to live there, I can't think of prettier place to live than in Oregon.
