I'd be $56 over budget. We'll see after my trip to the pawn shop. I noticed that Bushnell isn't making the Elites anymore. That's too bad. I really liked my Elite 2.5-10x40.
Great minds man. I had elite in my mind as well. That 2.5-10x40 4200 was one of the best dang scopes made, for the money. They are tough..

Dang! I'll have to check that out and see if I can use my Oregon Trail card. Must be the stock is edible.

A few questions:
  1. When you bumped into him in auto section, on the fringe of the sporting goods area, did you guys pretend to not know each other?
  2. Was he really wearing Romeos?
  3. Had he torn the arms off his crew-neck T-shirt, converting it into a Muscle T ?
  4. Is his wife really 600# ?
:D:D:D

Actually I was just commenting that that's about how I look when I go there looking for hunting and fishing accessories... say that in a slow southern drawl...:p:p:p

Step one, find a rifle for $200, I think I got a Ruger american 270 for that a while ago off gunbroker, shipped from the east side of the country. Step two, buy a $200 scope from primary arms that comes with a free set of rings (they go on sale from time to time)

That doesn't get you a sling, but that's not much more and the primary arms scopes come with lifetime warranty.

Once I started using a fixed power scope, I was hooked. No fiddling with the power knob, just shoot! That, and I dont forget to take the scope off 10x in the timber.

Funny that you mention that....

A funny story years ago when I was a young man. I was sitting up on top of knob looking down at a section of a clearcut near a river and the dirt road right next to it so I had the scope turned up to 9.
I got cold just sitting out there so I got in the old car, let the heater warm up, did I mention it was under 20°?
I then drove down to the area I was just glassing to check for sign because I knew it had to have animals in the area.
I got to the opening and not even 30 feet in front of me a huge two-point blacktail hops up on the road, neck all swollen in full rut and standing there just looking at my Escort.
I try and decide how the hell I'm going to get out of the car without spooking this deer cuz he had me pegged. I just decided screw it open the door slowly, get out like he's not even there and sure enough he bolts off the road into the reprod. Bubblegum bubblegum bubblegum!!!!
So, disgusted with my decision I walked around to the back of the car and was looking down into the reprod and I saw trail so I pulled the old trusty 30-30 to the shoulder waiting for him to walk by when I see movement to my left. That SOB jumped right back up on the road in the exact same spot. I swivelled around, he looked at me and I look through the scope and all I saw was fur. I was probably 35-40 feet from this big baskum as he just stood there looking at me. Well, I reached up and turned it back to 3, found a spot behind his elbow and fired. BANG!!! He jumped up on his hind legs and his front legs looked like he was scratching his ribs. I saw blood gushing out of the bullet holes that went in between the ribs and right through his heart. DOA, as he scrambled off the road onto the trail along the road. :p

Primary arms is a great bet for a beginner scope.

I know nothing about the company. I will probably stick with a known commodity.

Finding a used scope from a known brand is a good bet, but in the interest of a setup that a normal person can scrap together without waiting for the deal of a lifetime, primary arms fills the void. They have a great warrenty and useful reticle.

Had the similar thing happen to me walking up a logging road back in the 90's.... me and a blackie were playing the circular "grab a$$". He zipped off to my right up the hill into the brush, I thought "FRAK won't be seeing him again". Turned around and walked the other way and made it about 30' when he breaks out in front of me going downhill from my left and stops on the logging road broadside just staring at me from 30'-35' away.... circling bastige!!

I heart shot him once with my Colt AR15A2 (the only rifle I had back then), he jumped straight up 6-8' into a triple-gainer, hit the ground on his chest (legs folded under) and slid down the embankment like an otter dead as a doornail.... it was surreal.

Anyway.... waiting to see what scope "Mr. Vanguard" decides on! :D
