I can tell how ignorant leftists are by how much and how strongly they parrot the notion that politicians are bought and paid for by the NRA. Where do I even begin with this nonsense?

First and foremost, are they advocating for the elimination of ALL lobbying organizations or just the ones that they personally don't particularly care for? How about Planned Parenthood? They give more money to politicians than the NRA...much of which is our tax dollars. So they should be barred from giving money to politicians too, right?

And how come Republican politicians don't scream out, "you're bought and paid for by Planned Parenthood," whenever the topic of abortion comes up? Perhaps they should start.

It's interesting to note that the NRA isn't even among the top 20 largest donors. You would think they would be #1 for how much and how loudly they are vilified by liberals.

But still, politicians like Marco Rubio have been bought off by the NRA. Except the NRA has only given Rubio some $3 Million and change. Now on the surface that may seem like a very large chunk of change...except during the same time period Rubio has been given a total of $91 Million in total donations. So off the top of my head the NRA appears to have contributed about 4% of Rubios total donations. And liberals think 4% is enough to buy someone off?

And finally, liberals squawk that a United States Congressman or Senator is so scared of the big bad NRA and losing their job that they won't do the right thing and vote their conscience...and they think the problem here is the NRA? If they truly believe this, how about voting for politicians that will do their jobs? Or how about recalling the ones that don't? Or how about implementing term limits so nobody has to worry about getting re-elected and will vote their conscience. But no, the problem is the NRA??

Liberalism...it truly is a mental disease.

I too am a member of the NRA.
Do I agree with every comment , stance or action that they have taken over the years...?...No , of course not.
But they are powerful voice that has done more good than harm.

I am glad the NRA exists, just wish they existed in Oregon.
That I find puzzling my dog understands Oregon is under attack the last 10 years
and the NRA's presence is laughable. The Tin Foil Hat in me keeps asking why?

The latter. It seems that way to me, anyhow. Socialists can't be troubled with facts or opposing viewpoints. They've been groomed since kindergarten that the Socialist viewpoint is the only viewpoint that is correct and fair for everyone, and anything else is fascism, chauvinism, misogyny, racism, or Nazism.

As Colin Cowherd sometimes says "they don't want to get it right, they want to be right".

Commentary: Why do we hate the NRA?

Basically, the NRA is an association of members who are gun owners and have nothing to gain other than their preservation of the 2A. So the idea that the NRA is "buying" politicians is failed logic. NRA donations are essentially the members voting.

Alas, your premise is faulty as is your history of the august organization:

The N.R.A. was founded in 1871 by a group of former Union Army officers dismayed that so many Northern soldiers had been scarcely capable of using their weapons due to a lack of training.

Today, the NRA's training component encompasses, LE, military, and civilian! In fact in those states with a live fire component mandate to their concealed privileges cards, accept the organization's basic pistol certificate as proof the citizen as meeting the state requirement!

In the 70s, there was a bloodless coup in NRA leadership and the NRA's political ILA began.

As they say now, the rest is history, as for almost 50 years the ILA's mantra centers around protecting this country's citizens 2A privileges.

How the membership money is divided between the corp entities is there business, however, to make the blanket statement the enity only purpose in collecting $$$ or being in existing is strictly political activism is irresponsible!

:Sigh:

It's stuff like this that leaves me all twisted up inside. I read it. I fully agree with it. But I know that those against the 2nd Amendment never even see/hear it, or think about it. Or if they do they just ignore it, and go on with the ranting, raving and lying. And then the media only picks up on the ranting, raving and lying part. I'm actually amazed this is from a Chicken Noodle News story.

What would be nice , is , if the NRA brought back the "I am the NRA" campaign.

A showcasing of everyday gun owning Americans...from all walks of life.
Something to show and say that gun owners are not the evil , racist , death dealing , stupid , dangerous ,etc...media stereotypes.
If would be even nicer if this campaign were to be used on more "mainstream" non gun or outdoor magazines , TV shows , blogs etc...
Andy

Did anybody even read CBS's cited article?

Its read is a balanced and actually a pro NRA op-ed article with comparative examples and viable commentary for the enity.

Last sentence:

What the NRA's opponents hate isn't the organization. It's the millions of American voters who support it.

Might read it as there is some good comeback examples to be used towards antis.

I seldom bother to read them for obvious reasons but see headlines for anti NRA stuff a lot. It's just propaganda fed to the "useful idiots". I am sure a lot of them just repeat it thinking it is true. When you try to tell them the NRA is a drop in the bucket compared to many of the large unions they of course dismiss you. The vast majority don,t want to hear the truth. A great example is the guy who shot up that night club in FL. FBI found he originally tried to go to Disney there. They have tape of him hiding guns in a baby stroller. He see's lots of Armed security, changes his mind. He then googles other choices. That gay night club was like his 3d choice and when he googled it he was searching night clubs, not gay night clubs. The "news" of course has pretended this never happened. So many people you tell this too immediately do not want to believe it. If you show them proof they get mad and you can hear their brain slam shut as they huff off. <shrug>

The NRA can't force gun owners in OR or WA to vote for their best interest. Gun owners in both of these states actively vote in the people who are screwing them every couple years. So what is the NRA to do?

Oh thats easy do the same thing they do in other states you can throw OFF in the mix as well, Billboards and TV spots the same system Antis use and will if this makes the ballot.
Why do people ask this all the time. The NRA should be doing their job period here like they do elsewhere thats all I am asking and they never have in 20 years. The NRA and OFF are the only organizations that still get paid for accomplishing nothing and effecting nothing and people rally for them to get paid even more each year LOL

You skipped right over the real problem here. The anti gun Governors in OR and WA were voted into office by gun owners. So this in the NRA's fault?
This is why we are sunk, people believe stuff like this. <shrug>

When folks :
Who like guns cannot agree on what guns or items one should be able to own ...
As gun owners cannot work together to solve a firearm related issue...
Cannot get a strong voice , a spokesperson , who can speak for most gun owners in a non confrontational or "in your face " way...
Have a difficult time getting their ( our ) message / viewpoint out to other non-gun people...
Cannot even agree on just what the message / viewpoint is...

Then we as gun owners will have the same problems that have plagued us for decades.

We are sunk because people have no firearms rights leadership because they buy in thinking the NRA and OFF will save them.
So if I follow the logic you are suggesting lets just throw money at OFF and the NRA even though you yourself know they make no difference. You just made my point.
And you blew right by the NRA spending any time or money here that has nothing to do with who is in office NRA has helped many left wing states but ignore us. You can't sidestep the fact throwing money at the NRA wont change anything.
