Get Home Bag Layout!

Don't have time to snap pics, but keep a couple kits in the back of my car - the Car kit is for getting the vehicle operable again, and/or using the vehicle as a temporary shelter, and the Get Home Bags are for if the vehicle is inoperable and the family needs to hoof it. The Get Home Bag portion is:

hiking boots (not stored in the bag, but kept next to it)
2x pair of socks
underwear
jeans
tee shirt
sweatshirt
jacket
beanie
gloves
mylar emergency blanket
fixed-blade knife
multitool
mini prybar
mini bolt cutter
lifestraw
water bottle
liquid IV packets
granola bars & power bars
tarp
zip-ties
lighter
hand warmers
flashlight
power bank & cables
wet wipes
toilet paper
paper towel
hand sanitizer
medical kit

Have bags for the wife, kid, and dog as well, all of which they can carry themselves. Backpack for the wife is similar setup to mine, minus the heavier tools. Backpack for the kid is just clothes, food, and hygiene items. "Backpack" for the dog is a heavy-duty harness with pockets on it. It contains food, water, backup leash, and collapsible food / water containers.

That's awesome! I just have the bag for me to get home from work, but I haven't built my wife or kids bags yet. I like the mini prybar idea.

I disagree, nothing is more gray man then being a bald, slightly over weight dad wearing dorky bright shoes and business casual work cloths.
If I'm wearing dessert tan hiking boots, someone might think, "that guy might be xmilitary and probably has good gear on him that I can steal."
But if dorky me looks like a office jocky I will be over looked as someone unprepared who probably just has a bottle of water and a lap top!

The "ammo crates" contain various items, including a small backpack with a water bladder. Depending on the situation (including the season), I can pick from the contents to use immediately or pack into the backpack for travel on foot.

2 questions, for the group.

Did anyone NOT buy the folding, zipper pendleton blankets from Costco last year??

And the follow up question, can anyone re-fold said blankets without assistance?

Yes, I'm not suggesting those boots, just gray or black or dark blue.

Your thinking isn't wrong, but also those shoes stick out compaired to the average "ten-a-shoes".

I like how you've got everything contained in the forward part of the trunk with the net. Good way to keep it all together and separate from other random crap you might need to put in the trunk.

When doing bags for kids, you'll want to repack them every 6 months or so with new clothes. Longer than that the clothes probably won't fit them.

There isn't much room left for groceries, but I can put them in the back seat instead. I rarely have any passengers, so I have room left for other stuff. I eventually want to get a folding e-bike that I would have as a backup transport - but my car has not failed me yet and I have had it for 8 years. If I got a folding -ebike I am sure I would have to rearrange stuff.

The purpose of the net is to try to keep the stuff from flying around the passenger compartment (it is an SUV) if I got in a bad accident.
