Update: NO longer a rumor. Mr Mark "I support the 2nd amendment, except when I'm not" Kelly will be making an appearance.

Nice article by Dave Workman here. He raises a few good observations! <broken link removed>

Original post:

Just got this in my email alert from Gabby and the spaceman. If they do decide to roll over from Washington to Oregon for the same dog and pony show in Salem, be sure to let your legislator know you object to:

1) Letting out-of-state non-subject experts testifying on Oregon bills that do not affect them.
2) If they do speak, not to allow any more time than allowed to Oregon citizens who actually live here (Gabby got 10 minutes in Washington. I believe the average for citizens of Washington was 90-120 seconds.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In Oregon, background checks are almost as popular as pizza.

The Oregon state legislature is about to consider a bill to establish universal background checks. But while 78% of Oregon residents support background checks - nearly as many as the 81% who like pizza - the vote in the legislature will be close and key members are still undecided.

This vote is an important opportunity to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the dangerously mentally ill, while continuing to protect our Second Amendment rights.

Will you join Gabby and me in urging Oregon lawmakers to expand background checks for gun sales?

(insert gun-control email notification system)

Where Congress has failed to act, it’s up to state legislators to make our communities safer from gun violence.

Oregon’s February legislative session starts Monday, and it’s important that we start off the session with a strong show of support for this bill.

All the best,

Mark Kelly

Good grief. Why don't they model themselves after Reagan - after he was shot he didn't call for more background checks. I wonder how much money they make doing these tours around the country trying to take our rights away.

I am reminded of this:

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience". -C.S. Lewis

Yeah this bill isn't about BG checks the statist social engineers (Democratic National Socialist Workers party) want defacto registration. We already have BG checks nationwide. They want you to not be able to sell your firearm without a chain of custody so you can never claim to not own it anymore. These people are evil incarnate. Every little victory they have leads to the next victory until we end up where we are now, socialist.

Rumor has it they got paid 60 grand by Bloomberg to testify here in WA....

I wouldn't doubt it. We need to confirm those rumors!
I wouldn't put it past Bloomberg to by-pass the typical lobbying methods. Not after what was revealed in those MAIG emails a while back. Perhaps next time gabby/space are in public, someone should put that question to them?

The thing is, a background check would not have stopped her attempted assassin who purchased his pistol and ammunition legally.

Gabby's attempted assassin DID PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK, and bought his pistol and ammunition legally!!!

She and the spaceman will never admit this because it would hurt their cause. They are Fearmongering D-nozzles!!!

Precisely! This is the same thing I've been saying to all my friends and family when I talk about the evils/dangers of I-594 here in WA. In fact this is really the only thing this bill will accomplish, and I firmly believe this is the primary reason it's being pushed.

The anti's aren't stupid - they know exactly what they're doing by pushing this law, and it has nothing to do with making anyone safer - it has to do with making it impossible to tell the Brown Shirt that comes to your door "Sorry man, I sold all my guns...". This isn't paranoia, it's a legitimate concern; and I wish Dave Workman and other talented bloggers would wordsmith this concern in a way that makes common folks understand it.

How would/does a 'Universal Background Check' (as considered by the legislature) differ from the system that is in place now - or is 'Universal' a euphemism for 'expanded' - I seem to be missing something here.

It's hard to rationalize being against a universal background check system in my mind. If you buy a gun, you should have to prove you are not a felon/low life before you are able to gain access to that firearm. That doesn't seem like a problem to me. The problem however, is that everyone knows the people that declare all guns to be "evil" will not stop there. Take Australia for example, only a few short years ago it was easy to attain a semi-automatic rifle, add a psychopath into the equation that murders a group of people, and suddenly that freedom is taken away from the entire population. The government did not stop there. What is the eventual conclusion? Well, now you can't even play paintball or buy airsoft guns in Australia. That is the main issue in my mind, if you give a little to the anti-gun crowd, they sense weakness and proceed to go for everything they can. Give an inch and they will take a mile.

No more inches to give and now we must take back yards !

The entire thing is to build a complete registry for their intended confiscation.
Their intentions are not on doubt.
Our resolve to never let that happen is embedded in steel..

Spaceman spiff is nothing but a pimp. He's prostituting his girl for that big anti-gun $$$$$ meal ticket. You know darn well he saw Sarah Brady parading her husband around all those years, and he saw all that sympathy money rolling in. Nothing but greed for the reverse Brady couple,,,

Hey where are the libtards in this thread to defend the actions of their politicos?

I have noticed they are always absent when it is shown that someone they voted for (Demon-crat) is on another anti-gun tirade. Weird, huh?

They've been trained to ignore anything that proves them wrong and to repeat the following:

The current system does not cover legal private firearm transfers between private citizens for purposes that are not commercial or not in the course of a business. Under SB 1551 you would need to perform a background check when you buy or sell a firearm that is listed here on NWFA. Here in Oregon what that means is that ALL legal transfers would then be in the OSP database (a current registry) for no more than 5 years as SB 1551 feeds information directly into ORS 166.412(7). Putting aside the possibility that those records are currently kept for more than 5 years, how hard would it be for Folly Floyd or anyone of his ilk to change ORS 166.412(7) to remove the 5 year stipulation?
