It is still being offered as an amendment though. But is even more likely to not pass

After a meeting yesterday with Harry Reid (D-NV), Sen. Dianne Feinstein learned that her controversial assault weapons ban mess will not be part of the gun control bill package heading to the senate floor next month.

The AWB could be offered up as an amendment, but the bill was already considered a long shot, as senate democrats will be facing a competitive election cycle for 2014. Many face constituents back home who do not support such legislation.

“My understanding is it will not be [part of the base bill],” Feinstein said. “It will be separate.”

Asked if she were concerned about the decision, Feinstein paused and said, “Sure. I would like to [see the bill moved], but the leader has decided not to do it.”

“You will have to ask him [Reid],” she said, when asked why the decision was made.

Democrat insiders say the universal background check, supported only by Democrats, will not head to the floor either.

So does this mean the only thing they will be pushing is the highly flawed gun trafficking bill?

    From CNN (antigun propaganda station)
'The contents of the Democratic gun package — as well as the amendments that will be allowed on the floor — are the subject of intense maneuvering on and off Capitol Hill.
There are two likely paths: Reid could advance a gun trafficking bill with a school safety provision; some form of background checks and the assault weapons ban would then be offered as amendments. In the other scenario, Reid might offer a background checks bill that includes the gun trafficking and school safety provisions, with assault weapons again offered as an amendment.
The Judiciary panel also approved a bipartisan gun trafficking bill backed by Leahy, Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), among others, that dramatically boosts penalties for “straw purchases”of weapons, in which a person buys firearms on behalf of an individual barred by law from possessing them. Thanks to its support from Republicans, Reid and Leahy want to see this bill as a foundation for the Democratic gun package on the floor."

This is about the Democrats getting other democratic party members elected in 2014 - how is this tied directly back to the NRA? The NRA is not even mentioned in the article.

We should be hoping the people that voted her into office get hit by a bus because otherwise she would only be replaced by another gun grabber.

They are basically already worrying about the mid term elections, they know that this could cost them seats if they proceed with it. It happened after her first ban back in the 90's.

They are just saving the AWB to be included in the UN Small arms treaty. This is not even close to being over NO popping corks yet.

This is not the end of it. Don't put your guard down. Keep supporting the NRA, GOA etc.. As soon as their is another mass shooting, and there will be another one, they will bring these ban proposals back. You can count on it as sure as the sunrise.

Not related, but how can Feinstein stand there with her finger on that AK trigger?? It's pointed horizontally, too.

She has a concealed carry permit in CA, so she must have sat through the 4-rule safety training a few times.

Actually, she 'had' a CCW down there. I believe she has long ago let it expire. Hell, she never hardly comes back to the state anyway, so what's the diff?

Nice images of her wrestling with that nasty rifle...

But get out the kleenex and wipe away those crocodile tears...

Treaties have to be ratified by 2/3 of the senate I believe and they don't have the votes for that.
