Let's see... Frenchy has led the once magnificent NRA into becoming a joke with his alleged misappropriation of funds and termination of North, fought for bump stocks in the face of Las Vegas, and defends 100 round AR mags as a tool of sportsmen. We wonder why we're losing the support of mainstream America as several countries around the globe have now issued travel warnings to their citizens regarding trips to the USA.

Old time shooters (like me, I'm 70) who remember life before GCA 68 have seen this coming for a long time. When many of the gun owning public misunderstand the difference between "freedom" and "license" while skirting much of the responsibility for the actions of a fringe element of society, it is inevitable that laws and regulations will follow in order to protect the many innocent victims of a few mentally disturbed criminals.

Personally I think that the safe use of guns should be required curriculum in middle school or high school and taught by certified personnel from law enforcement or the military. I'm also quite curious as to whether or not very violent video games have a negative effect on the development of rational thought of young people.

If we're not the ones regulating our sport in a thoughtful way, someone else will .... and they've got a bigger arsenal and a much larger pocketbook.

I can't see this going through. They can't be that stupid...Right?

I agree that any new ban will likely be more comprehensive. A lot has changed since 1994. Back then, not even California had it's own state version yet. Since '94, we've had many mass shootings featuring the firearms in question. A number of states have passed such laws which have tended to legitimize the idea. Millons more have been sold since the ban expired in '04. The 1994 ban was relatively benign in that it didn't take away what was already out there, it only prohibited new manufacture and sale. "Going forward" (popular hackneyed phrase in modern culture), my feeling is that a new version of the "assault weapon" ban would be more comprehensive. Perhaps something like California, where ownership (and existence of the firearm) grandfathers away with the death of the owner.

What we're talking about here is occurring under partial GOP rule. Joe Biden is already talking about a buy-back. If that were to be mandatory, many people might find that to be more palatable than a California situation. At least they could get some money out of it rather than have their estate turn them in after death to the police without compensation. However a buy-back might be deemed too costly. As I understand it, so far lower courts have ruled against plaintiffs as to the constitutionality of regulating "assault weapons." That is, they haven't yet found that various forms of regulating these firearms have been compensable applications of the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment. Some serious legal challenge might be expected to come out of a new federal ban. Oh, I suppose there are other creative ways to support seizure (turn-in) without compensation. Like invoking words such as terrorism, public safety, national security, executive order, etc. FDR sent thousands of people to internment camps by executive order.

".....fought for bump stocks in the face of Las Vegas, and defends 100 round AR mags as a tool of sportsmen. We wonder why we're losing the support of mainstream America as several countries around the globe have now issued travel warnings to their citizens regarding trips to the USA." The Second Amendment is not about hunting or "sportsman" and not only "sportsmen's" firearms should be legal. And the NRA did not fight for bumpstocks. The 2A is about self defense and the right to live as free citizens not servants of the ruling class.

Well, folks there is another alternative...

It'll be ugly, it'll be bloody and it just Ming give birth to America 2.0 with a refreshed representative republics as its form of government... I'll be stockpiling magazines and ammo....

Red flag laws on a long enough timeline are firearm bans, for everyone! Talk about flanking the second amendment.
Absolutely right. Soon the list of people who can denounce you will include neighbors, distant relatives, anyone.
It will turn people against each other and will have zero repercussions for the people who rat out gun owners. Hell, there'll probably be rewards for those who net the most guns.
My one hope is that SCOTUS will toss it for what it truly is: a massive violation of the Second and Fourth Amendments And I say SCOTUS because the 9th will rationalize any violation of the Constitution.

The Turtle says Trump is anxious to get going on this according to that article. The article also references R. Sen Pat Toomey and R. Rep Joe Cunningham.... now we will see them trot out a litany of gun-owning Congressional members that say they are for "gun reform", and all the gun owners they know are too, along with some bogus polling to support this move.

i agree and it's what bothers me most about WA i1639 - police chiefs and sheriffs now have the task of judging mental health - totally unqualified and it's invasion of privacy too ... 45D4A09B-5D92-420D-9924-1BDA224B763D.jpeg

So... again, who's gonna nut up and organize a million rifleman march onto DC this election season, while Congress is in session?
Edit. We saw quite a turn out from pissed off rural folks in the timber industry this recent season against the State Capitol, but we sure as heck didn't see as big for gun rights in Oregon... who's got the balls and the funding and the will to show the DC Swamp that gun rights are not negotiable?

The Republicans think they own us. They think we will keep voting for the because the alternative is worse. I say eff every cuck traitor that sides against our civil liberties and craps on the Constitution. Yes, even worse Tyrants will be elected to replace them. Maybe it's time to burn down the house since it's looking like we will get there eventually. Better to do it now before we are completely neutered.

True they will show their true colors now.

With the liberals and Dems going full dead brain socialist they will feel we have no other option.

The 1994 ban was not comprehensive. No ban on normal mag releases, no ban on transfer or possession, etc. If they pass one now it will be worse.

They learned from the last ban, and the cali/ny laws.
They will basically ban any semi auto, mag fed, and probably all hi cap mags

Without grandfathering in.

How many businesses and people will be out of a job or lose their companies?
How many Veterans will be out of a job?!

The party is over...

Im still sure that we will have only ourselves to blame.

They will pass what they pass and there wont be anything done about it except maybe a court fight. The problem with "democracy" is that your rights are subject to mob rule.

There isnt going to be any uprising, there isnt going to be a civil war or revolution. Its just going to happen and people who lose their guns or trade them for a token amount are only going to go online and bubblegum about it.

The will, funding and organization to resist or rebel against anything simply does not exist.

Not saying dont fight, but dont hold your breath either.

Lived through one AWB, I'm sure we'll survive another. The people here talking about Civil War will either sit on their hands or get themselves into a Malheur situation with a few of their drinking buddies. There is no appetite for military conflict on our soil.

padraig, with all due respect Sir, the NRA did not fight for bump stocks. They did the opposite. If you are against bump stocks you might want to float the NRA some greenbacks!
TRAVEL WARNINGS. In the U.S.A - Fair enough. A buddy of mine, his brother and wife traveled to south America in an area that was deemed a safe area. Both were raped, and stabbed repeatedly. Name me one area in the world that is 100% safe. Hell, I have concealed carried in Frenchglen Oregon. Them boyz, were singing kumbaya. Note* I conceal carry everywhere! It's my right!

As far as freedom and license, what are you referring to? If you are referring to the government protecting innocent victims, think again. Our boarders are wide open, criminal justice is a joke don't make me laugh! How many felony convictions do they get? Before their locked up for "our protection."

Youth being educated on proper use of firearms, I could not agree with you more!

The second amendment is not about sport, it's about tyranny.

You've lived a little longer than I have. I appreciate your view. I just wanted to share my view too. Take care.

Anyone issuing travel advisories to the US over mass shootings is a Fricken moron.

Maybe Detroit or LA, for common gang gun violence. But why would want to go there anyway?
