Interesting video from Mark Smith (pasted below) that summarizes the articles. Some really good points in the video such as leftists admitting that as crime rises people will buy guns to protect themselves, not because of manufacturer's marketing, "hyper masculinity", etc., people don't feel safe and want to protect themselves.

You mean like how the "war on drugs" was lost... yet the DEA and DOJ keep making Federal drug crimes punishable and enforceable?
Maybe read the articles or watch the video first then see what you think.

I see people here on nextdoor I would call typical Pdx snowflakes daily sorting of throwing up their arms "I don't feel safe, I don't know what to do". The leftist policies that are growing crime exponentially are putting anti-gun people in the position of worrying for their own safety. Safety is #2 on maslow's hierarchy of needs. If you don't feel safe you can't really think about anything else (such as woke stuff for them ha ha) until you feel safe again. It's a fundamental human need.

Incidentally of course "don't feel safe" is what is driving them to try to take our guns. They think if they can get rid of all the guns then they will feel safe. Good chance it's gonna eventually be "getting all guns isn't working, I need to do something!" Might take a long time though. Need to feel safe is a powerful motivator and what is driving all the new owner sales it seems.

I'm just saying "we lost the war on guns"... but they'll still go after gun owners one way or other anyways; because we gun owners are a direct potential threat to them keeping their power... if we'd just nut up, unify, and get as many into action instead of being complacent and comfortable moving to the next red State.

The left will never give up on taking away guns and freedom, thats a central tenant of socialism.
What you see here is a rare left POV of truth that one person is willing to admit. Not unlike an adamant gun rights supporter that still admits that an armed society will have more access to guns for criminals (theft, strawman etc.) simply because they are in distribution to the public.

The New Republic article is a steaming pile of fecal hyperbole and outright fabrication. Insightful as far as how farking distorted the leftist belief system has become. Someone should sell those fothermuckers some religion that protects them against all evil, and the Morlocks will ultimately become their masters and eat them.

Some of you guys might want to read the articles before commenting. Up to you though of course. I comment before reading way too often myself.

One thing I find interesting is I hear liberals say "it's all about the number of guns in private hands". They like programs like Philadelphia's recent gun buy back event and show it as a "success".

That program resulted in a total of 6 guns turned in.

Contrast that with the fact that last year alone Pennsylvania had 1.23 Million gun purchases under NICS. A realistic person would recognize 6 guns in 1.23 million (plus all years guns prior to 2022) is nothing.

So these people have no touch with reality. Feel good programs, virtual signalling, false info, and pre-concocted narratives rule their world.

The articles show that some are starting to be realistic. Fe mentioning the shear amount of guns and most importantly the strength of the second amendment preventing them from getting the guns.

its worth noting that the two articles are opinion pieces. (cleaverly and intentionally disguised as news under opinon subjects like "column" and "the soapbox"). IMO their realist approach to the subject was to re-stoak the fire.

Could be I dunno. I wonder if the la times one is timed to be just ahead of Benitez's ruling striking down CA AW and mag bans, which might be next week (after WA gun ban is signed).

Looking at the soapbox author's background, I'm guessing she may be less nieve than most, but who knows.

Virtually impossible to prove but I would not doubt it. An anti gun journalist has free reign in publishing their personal bias.

I am a big fan of Mark Smith. He even has replied to my messages and questions. Great Guy! We certainly need more people like him here in Oregon.
I like what he has to say but seems to has a compulsion to repeat everything 3 times (or more), takes 20min+ (typically) to put out 5-7min worth of actual content that makes him very difficult to listen to.

This one was 13min so I thought... "oh good. It's shorter. I'll listen", but I think he must have gotten feedback that his videos were too long... so... he just jammed his 20min+ of script into 13min by talking double speed of normal. 🤣

Smart guy. Usually spot on in his info... it's just a bit painful sometimes.
