hiking
Hiking is the preferred term, in Canada and the United States, for a long, vigorous walk, usually on trails (footpaths), in the countryside, while the word walking is used for shorter, particularly urban walks. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland, the term walking is acceptable to describe all forms of walking, whether it is a walk in the park or backpacking in the Alps. The word hiking is also often used in the UK, along with rambling (a slightly old-fashioned term), hillwalking, and fell walking (a term mostly used for hillwalking in northern England). In New Zealand a long, vigorous walk or hike is called tramping. It is a popular activity with numerous hiking organizations worldwide, and studies suggest that all forms of walking have health benefits.
Hello all i have a question:
If i have a second pistol can my friend open carry that firearm while we are hiking? I understand the I-594 has some stipulations on transfer of firearms.
Have usually hiked with 6 shot 357 6 or 8" barrel while hiking in wilderness areas with my two dogs, Airedale and Standard Schnauzer, both dogs armed with bear bells; but recent news of people encounters with packs of wolves; I am rethinking of switching to high capacity 9mm or 40 caliber...
I’ve recently started walking and hiking more to loose weight. Being overweight has also come with painful back problems. After several dangerous encounters with dangerous wildlife, I’m not willing to be an “ultralight” hiker and go without a firearm. Being cautious of my total hiking weight...

Looking for advice on a carry piece for the backcountry. I have probably hiked 3500 or so miles in the past few years, encountered many bears, but typically don't carry more than a 2-3" knife.
I have begun hiking with a small dog in wolf/cougar/bear territory and have considered getting a...
Don't mind if I do. :D
So, the last five months has been hellacious here, but last week, I finally got out to do some hiking. I grew up on the dunes, so it was the natural pick for this short jaunt. Here are a handful of pics I took in case others might enjoy. Cheers. :)
I got stopped by some sheriff's deputies (not game wardens or state trooper) while hunting waterfowl on private land and asked for ID. I presented him with my drivers license, concealed carry permit, and hunting licenses. The officer had informed me that a passing motorist who lived in the...

...and I always go elk hunting. I decided to get my fat butt in some hiking shape. I know that hiking does not equate to hunting, the walking style is totally different, (don't get me started). But being that I am heavier then ever, and approaching the big 300 lbs (and knowing I should be 240 at...
