Bases have MPs. I can't speak for other branches but the MPs in the Corps were every bit as good as a modern large urban police force. I can't imagine it being sent different in the other branches.

Off base locations, such as recruiting stations and small installations remotely located from major bases rely on local law enforcement.

The vast majority of personnel in a modern armed force need little to no firearm experience and the risks and logistics of arming the would be huge.

Much like any other entity, attacks on military posts such as this recent scenario create severe problems in anticipating, preventing and responding. There are no easy, simple or clear answers.

Yeah, that had to be it... his instructor likened him to a porn star. Offended his ME sensitivities. What a lil beotch!

Foreign occifers would never survive a real man's boot camp... woulda had him crying and ringing the bell the first day!

Flight Instructors Always give out creative "Call signs" to those who need some motivation, tunups, or knocked down a peg or three!
Calling this dude "PORN STASH" smacks of some funny, and probably accurate intel coming to light about the pilot trainee's personal live on base! This "Tradition" Goes all the way back to birth of Military Aviation and is a very proud tradition! That this little P.O.S. took offence shows just how "Certain folks" see the rest of the world! BTW, it's an Honor when one receives a Call Sign from ones C.O., and to get a funny one, or something slightly, vulgar is really something! This Kid would have been given a different one later on as he earned his slot in a squadron, but at the time, it was needed and sort of a joke all rolled into one!
In my Days of Mil Aviation, this dumbphuck would have gotten something a little more vulgar, such as "TWO STROKE" Or "Stroker Ace" or "One Eyed Willy" for his obvious skills at keeping one hand on the Joy Stick, or any one of millions of call signs, depending on any number of factors, some might have actually been pretty cool, some naughty, while still family friendly, and others decidedly rated "R" or better!

putting pressure on officials to pass pilots through the training program in an attempt to preserve diplomacy with the U.S. ally. Many US military pilots have complained that some of the Saudi pilots are not safe.

Same thing happened in the engineering dept. At my school.

The problem is, and I speak as one with almost fifteen years of dealing with his ilk, they have, in general, as much sense of humour as a door knob, and an exalted but misplaced sense of their own superiority that goes way past stratospheric.

Any nickname bestowed on him by the 'infidel' that failed to respect or reflect his 'wonderfulness' would be seen as a gross insult to him and all his camel-screwing brethren back to the fortieth generation, and would have to be avenged, preferably in blood.

Sad to say, three innocent people had to die and others get badly hurt before he got his turn to bleed.

The Sauds need to be sent the bill for the loss of the good folk who were murdered by this P*S, and for the loss of careers for those who were injured, and say, $1/2 Billion 'apology' money.

I truly hate to broad brush anything … especially groups of people but that is exactly what I'm about to do here.

I encountered only a handful of Saudi "royals" doing joint training but to a person they were entitled, lazy, ignorant, petty, with a petulant child-like demanding nature. They were the biggest bunch of whiners I have ever encountered and did not hesitate to flaunt their "status" by refusing to do pretty much anything asked or required of them.

They still passed their training with very high marks … as giving them ratings that reflected their true level of competence and skill would be a career ender for the instructor. Yep, we were ordered to let them do whatever the heck they wanted to do and to give them the highest scores in the class.

My own observances match yours almost exactly! Unfortunatly, you are also correct, those people have such a superiority complex about themselves, it puts others at risk to be around them!
What should have been a joke to this young pilot was lost on him, he took offenses at being treated just like all the other pilots, and worse, he got shamed for having a large porn stash on his computer and "keeping his hand on the stick" was well known! Every single one of these "People" experiencing western living, all, and I mean Every single damn one, spends a lot of time, energy, and prince daddy's money doing bad things, as if being away from home excuses them from Allah's Judgements!

Obviously, this kid was confined ( quarantined) to base, otherwise he would have been out terrorizing the town in his prerequisite black Benz or Bentley, dropping wads of cash on hookers and booze, and causing all sorts of mayham while he was raping and pillaging he way around, this is so common among these people, it's almost comical to watch! Even better when you have something they really take a fancy to, like a certain Arrest Me Red Italian Sports Car, I was offered such a Vegas Wad, it was obscene, and great offence was taken ( and a great amount of pleasure I might add) when I told that phucker in no uncertain terms PHUCK NO I will not sell you this car no matter how much money you throw at my feet! Point is, we shouldn't be hosting these people HERE like we do other friendly nations military personal, but if we felt the need to train them, it should be done Or'there!

If my call sign was Porn Stash I'd grow the most epic mustache

This extremely high-ranking gentleman is a in the Sultan of Oman's Armed forces, and is categorically NOT in the British Army. I'd like to see what happens if somebody unpleasant lets loose a chemical weapon of some kind...I'm betting that he could categorically NOT have a 'good seal' around all that face-fur.

That mustache filters all known chemical weapons with just pure awesomeness

Seems to be less and less of a concern these days. All the "operators" grow muji beards to blend with the natives, and here in the US where forever first responders were prohibited from anything but a short trimmed stache, more of those same agencies are allowing full on beards now too.

Someone, somewhere may yet develop a sealed hood that works as well or almost as well for those with such robust facial hair. Or they just don't care or see it as a serious threat these days, on the aspect of "whens the last time our forces were gassed?" - also probably figuring that in a nuclear event, most are pretty much SOL anyway. IF you're close, you don't have to worry because you probably won't even feel a thing. If you're close but far enough to survive the blast, you won't have much time to put on your MOP gear anyway before being contaminated. If you're far enough away, you can get out of dodge and avoid prevailing winds.

I hate to say it because sometimes things have a habit of coming true, but the only way to reverse the trend would probably be if we or our allies were hit with a chemical, biological, or nuclear attack. Then you're going to see a bunch of bald, clean shaven dudes for generations to come.

Interesting article. Corroborates what some have said earlier in this thread. However, there seems to be a contradiction between this author's assertion that the shooter checked in Monday and the previous article stating that he was insulted in class in April.

best part from that whole article:

  • Why did the Sheriff Department have to stop the shooting and not active duty watch-standers or military police?
In short, because the Sailors at NAS Pensacola were failed by their leadership.

After the Naval Reserve Center in Chattanooga was attacked by a Muslim terrorist, then Candidate Trump was critical of the policy of military members being disarmed while on duty. The only reason that the Chattanooga body count wasn't higher, was because the Navy Commanding Officer (an aviator) had disregarded policy and had his personal handgun with him in his office and he confronted the attacker and returned fire. He would later say that he disregarded policy because the safety of his command was his ultimate responsibility. He defended his command that day, and saved lives.

The next ideation of the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) included provisions to allow commanders the discretion to allow CHL holders to bring their personal weapons onto base to defend themselves in similar instances. Tragically, no US commander has had the guts to implement the allowances granted by law.

This is how you LEAD BY EXAMPLE. Give that commanding officer a medal of honor.

The rest is pretty good. Especially the part where he talks about how the Crusades aren't taught in school.
Either way this reaffirms my opinions that i'll keep to myself from my own eye witness accounts and empirical evidence. No different than the ANA/ANP.

Military Police and the SNCOs and officers with the specific assignment of being on duty should be the only ones armed.

How it was on Drum. Though really only MP's had the M9 and then local law was also on post as well.

I was an MP in the Marine Corps. Every gate was required to have at least one long gun. And every patrol unit had a long gun as well along with their sidearms.

I don't know how the Navy handles Security or Private owned Firearms, BUT, in the A.F. there was ZERO personal firearms accessible, those who did own and wished to have them had to turn them in to the Armory and sign them in/out! Security was handled by a combo of On Base Security personal as well as Local LEO who were cleared to enter the base during emergencies! Outside of that, Absolutely NO ONE was allowed to be armed, and if you were caught, you got a serious court martial and all that followed that!
After 9/11 when base security went Serious, private owned firearms were expressly forbidden on base, end of story, do not pass go!
We had Armed Security at the gates, road blocks and an entrance maze, and all sensitive areas were off limits to those not expressly cleared whether or not you had the security clearances! In short, base security was taken serious and there was no reason for personally owned weapons!
We did have a few of us issued Carry permits as part of our day to day duties, but that was a rare exception and not a standard practice!
We could carry while on base, but had to be under orders and have a copy of those orders for inspection, and it had to be a standard issue side arm, not a personal one!
