Do you every burn the tang instead of drilling it? It would probably be easier and would get you a much tighter fit.I really like how this one turned out. A Scottish Skean Dubh. View attachment 422122 View attachment 422123
A big thanks to @BillM for all the materials you gave me years back. Still using them!
Here is a quick video of the knife being made.
Even when you burn in the tang, you still drill a pilot hole that is a few sizes smaller than the tang. I have done it in the past, and it is a pita; takes forever. Plus, this epoxy is stronger than the wood and provides an excellent grip.Do you every burn the tang instead of drilling it? It would probably be easier and would get you a much tighter fit.
Ah. Makes sense.Even when you burn in the tang, you still drill a pilot hole that is a few sizes smaller than the tang. I have done it in the past, and it is a pita; takes forever. Plus, this epoxy is stronger than the wood and provides an excellent grip.
Here is a beauty I just picked up.
The body of the knife is all titanium, the firing button is brass and the blade is M390. It is 9" long and the fit and finish are outstanding.
Thanks:
James
