Lots of interesting reading, I slogged through it all up to this point.

Considering the "typical" gun owner is a working class conservative male, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the general content and conversation leans that way.

Pretty much on the mark. Not necessarily working class, but leaning to the right for sure.

He's just described every single web forum out there, no matter the subject.

All of them are echo chambers.

People are attracted to comfortable places. So it's natural that mostly conservative gun owners would band together.

It is Reddit that whole place is a massive dumpster fire , but the poster was right about one thing. Lots of folk here complain about gouging , but my experience has been its both socialists and people who apply the conservative label to themselves that complain about supply / demand economics at work in the classifieds .

Agreed. But then again, most conservative types want to conserve their money. It's only gouging if the other guy does it.

Back to the comments in the OP. Like anything else, there is a grain of truth in some of what he says. But let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

My biggest personal gripe and once in a while makes me give up and say, "I'll never post another thing on NWFA" but it wears off quickly. It's this. There is a minority of members who will attack anything posted. For the sheer thrill of being negative or cute. You could post an engraving of infant George Washington, they would attack it.

Some threads get off to an antagonistic start, I've learned to avoid them. I try to make constructive, helpful posts that contribute to the conversation. I never willfully make mean or demeaning comments. I treat people as I'd like them to treat me. I don't think you need to be an online tough guy to be a meaningful contributor to NWFA.

I don't think I've ever been disciplined by a moderator. I have taken to heart the desires of the owner when he has asked for less antagonism in politicized discussions. There is no getting around the fact that firearms lately have become increasingly controversial. Therefore, political discussion is a normal result and cannot be avoided entirely.

As to the conservative label. I started out as a Goldwater conservative. And I've learned to adapt and evolve. You have to find your way for what works best for you as an individual. The definition of conservative as a label for an individual's political orientation has taken quite a beating in the past couple of decades. Keep that in mind; some contemporary figures who have been labeled as such not only were NOT conservatives, but weren't really even Republicans.

6 pages and still open! I don't agree on the OP Reddit review. I am late to the firearms game. Most of the gun forums I came across during the Obama era were NRA heavy and some were outright racist (here is the catcher) with no input or direction from the mods. Actually, I was ok with that. I just didn't hang around.

This site, if anything, is too protective as people are free to leave or ignore ideas they don't like. I have moved more to the "right" based on the left moving further left. Is that because I am older, raised a daughter or just open to decent arguments? I would say, good and factual comments are accepted regardless of political bias.Sometimes I have been wrong or mislead. Sometimes I don't agree with a person on one thread but do agree on the next.

Good luck finding a more balanced and informative firearms site. This website serves a purpose. It's free to get in. Free to buy/sell and well moderated.

Those people are truly as stupid as they sound, they have no idea of what they are talking about, and what's worse, they think THEY are right, and they are, which is to say, they cannot see the forest through the trees! I especially love how this "member" continued to call out 20 specific donating members here, as he called them, the "Top 20" but didn't specify if it's post count, likes, or how much $$$ they donate to the sight, and yet, he claims that THOSE 20 members get to dictate the way of things here! Not sure i'm on that top 20 list or not, don't give 2 eff's, but I can tell you, I have ZERO influence over Joe, the Staff, or how anything is done around these here parts, I'm just small potato who happens to have a metric ton of likes, and I can also tell you, Stomper doesn't get to decide jack sh!t here ether, much as folks would actually like that happening! These are the kind of people who cannot DO, think, or act on their own, they seek out conformation and then think the interwebs will be their savior, instead of nutting up and embracing the truth, they go all woke on what ever CNN MSNBC tells them, and that's the way of it! Sadly, they will be the first to fall when the house of cards comes crashing down, and so be it. I feel no remorse for those who cannot think critically on their own, cannot act with out specific instruction or a leader, and cannot contribute except as a corpse to ether provide ammo, or a sand bag!

This is a good summary. I joined the forum REALLY early (I think I'm member 51 or something like that), back when Joey was recruiting members face to face (in my case at a THR get-together).

For a while it was a pretty respectful place with the rules pretty well enforced, but the moderator selection got really bad really fast. He ended up having people who were the most vocal (read right-wing-nutjobish) or those who ended up donating the most (and also most vocal!).

Once Joey turned the site to his sole income (I think he quit his tech job or quit doing tech contracting?), he hit a point where just about anyone who gave him money couldn't be criticized, since they could break the rules with impunity, or were the mods themselves.

Ever since then, I've gone just for classifieds. Everything else degrades to straight trash. After his "this is not who we are" post a bit ago I tried to start reading the rest of the threads, but noticed no changes whatsoever.


Here is a flat out bold faced LIE, No member here, supporting or not, has any say in how this sight is run, or moderated, or by who!

Let me be as frank as I can, guns aren't going anywhere and a lot more people that don't believe your beliefs are arming themselves. So, people that cater to gun interests are gonna learn sooner or later that the things I'm pointing out are going to hurt them in the long run if allowed to thrive. Financially and culturally on a wider scale.

Here is an observation, and I think it really highlights where we are today, why this divide is do deep!
We are truly divided, more then half the population have lost effective representation in all political positions. We have one party in power who dictate their will upon every one, and get butthurt when ever there is any pushback. We have Billionaires who have nothing better to do then buy political offices to influence their power and wealth while hurting all of us. The party in Power thinks it's their right and duty to tell us what, when, where, why, how, and/or IF in everything, and they demand absolute allegiance to their power and authority! They refuse to follow the law, instead they executive order themselves "Emergency Powers" and then side step the whole process! They raise taxes to fund more and more of things we do not need, and fail to fund things that have been forgotten, like our power/fuel grid, or hydro power, and our roads and bridges, but goddammit, we gotta fund special projects because the power in power said so!
So, more then Half this country have been marginalized, we are called Deplorable's, MAGAbillies, Right Wing Extremists, bitter clingers, Gun Nuts, whacko's, and accused of staging an insurrection, denying the results of the elections, and generally holding back any progress, or change! We are told the constitution is a living document and subject to modern interpretation to match the modern needs, and as a modern society, we no longer need or require the 2nd.

Any one coming here that supports and defends any of the above doesn't belong here, and they do not deserve citizenship in this country! You can be of any political leaning you wish but when you support any of the above, you are now the enemy of this republic, and you are a traitor!
