The excuse is people don't want their taxes to go up and that's what would have to happen in order to build more and operate more. If the government would stop doing all of the "feel good" programs which just aid people in becoming dependent upon the system, they could have the money without. But that's not likely to happen given the minds that are inhabiting the places of government.If the jails are overcrowded then build more, there is no excuse to letting criminals out of jail before their sentence is done!!! NONE!!!
The Washington State Legislature balks at making more severe drunk driving sentences because it would require more jails/prisons/staffing and that is why there are people driving our streets with 5 dui convictions on the books. The same mentality exists with the legislature regarding felony sentencing.
