Don't know how many of you have read of the incident in Ferndale on Father's Day but thought I would post a brief recap of what is known so far.

During a Father's Day get-together at a home near the Nooksack River a resident reported bullets flying by overhead their home/yard. Then a second call came in saying a resident had been struck by one one of the stray bullets. When deputies arrived bullets were still coming from a direction across the river. Deputies went to the area and found four guys firing hand guns and high-powered rifles across the river in the direction of the house. All four had felony convictions.

The 23 year old woman that was struck tragically died yesterday at the hospital in Bellingham.

Just putting this out there for those who may not be aware. This occurred about half mile from my own residence. By the way, I am a shooter w/cpl and shoot at my range on a regular basis so don't interpret this post as being anti-gun in any way.

Hopefully they can determine who's weapon the fatal shot came from and put him and the others away for a long time. Don't know if alcohol was involved.

Very, very sad Father's Day for this family.

Drive up into the woods someday. You have people shooting down the road where you may be coming around the corner where they can't see you. You have idiots who don't have the common sense or courtesy to stop shooting while you drive by them. They have no idea if the person in the car or truck going by is gun friendly or a rabid anti-gunner who will put all their effort into getting shooting closed down in that area. Then you have the yahoo's that think the best target is their old computer or TV set, then leave all the debris where they shot it. It a miracle that we can shoot in the woods at all. Why do shotgun shooters think it ok to shoot a couple hundred rounds and leave their hulls laying there? People better start waking up or its all over.

It just goes to show that for some untold reason that LE and the justice department are not doing a very thorough job of keeping track of these felons. Why on earth did the decide that 3 strikes was a good enough reason to let these fools go out & do what they want two more times???
If the jails are overcrowded then build more, there is no excuse to letting criminals out of jail before their sentence is done!!! NONE!!!

The excuse is people don't want their taxes to go up and that's what would have to happen in order to build more and operate more. If the government would stop doing all of the "feel good" programs which just aid people in becoming dependent upon the system, they could have the money without. But that's not likely to happen given the minds that are inhabiting the places of government.

The Washington State Legislature balks at making more severe drunk driving sentences because it would require more jails/prisons/staffing and that is why there are people driving our streets with 5 dui convictions on the books. The same mentality exists with the legislature regarding felony sentencing.

I have a boss who has been arrested eight times in 4 states for DUI. Quite stunning.
