I am really impressed that while Maria claims to support the second amendment she lists all the infringements she thinks will end gun violence. They are of course all infringements of our right to self defense but she is better than us and knows better. She like the other idiots is all for civilian disarmament. I think she needs to be voted out of office and that is coming up. included below

Dear Dr. Stempski,

Thank you for contacting me to express your views on gun ownership and violence prevention. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.

I support the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding Washingtonians who own guns. I also remain focused on addressing the deeply troubling incidents of gun violence in this country and making our state and our country as safe as possible for all people.

I continue to believe that Congress must enact legislation to make our country safer. That's why I support proposals to expand background checks to sales at gun shows and sales online, as Washington state has already done, and proposals to deny individuals on a federal terrorist watchlist the ability to purchase firearms. In the past, I have also supported proposals to ban certain military-style, semi-automatic weapons and make it illegal to produce, import, or sell magazines with capacity of more than 10 rounds, which also failed to garner enough votes to pass. Following the massacre in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017, I was an original cosponsor of the Automatic Gunfire Prevention Act. Introduced by Sen. Feinstein, this legislation closes a deadly loophole that allows semi-automatic weapons to be easily modified to fire at the rate of automatic weapons. Under the National Firearms Act, the sale, manufacture and transfer of automatic weapons is illegal. However, bump stocks, slide fire devices, and other similar accessories can be attached to semi-automatic weapons, allowing them to reach fully-automatic rates of fire. I believe that we must close this loophole to protect both civilians and law enforcement officers.

In the wake of continued gun violence in our nation, I believe it is time for Members of Congress to set aside our differences and recommit ourselves to sensible reforms that will protect Americans.

Thank you again for contacting me to share your thoughts on this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Maria Cantwell
United States Senator

I understood this...."I understand you like your guns and 2A rights but I'm working hard everyday to erode those rights as quickly as I can. Please continue to support me and my efforts in doing this."

GTFOH!!!

I had my state senator for district 45 in WA also tell me she toosupported the 2nd amendment while authoring or sponsoring truly draconian legislation that we managed to defeat at least for this session.

I would give her a simple reply.

"It is obvious from your response that you do not, in fact, support the Second Amendment. And apparently most of the rest of the Bill of Rights. I could elucidate but my allotted time for speaking to a brick wall has been used up."

I agree, it is time for her and Mr Murray to go as well,

Patty has managed to get another 6 years during the last election. Ms Cantwell is up for election this year. let's assume of the boxes afforded us that we can use the soap box and the ballot box before having to resort to the cartridge box. molon labe

at least it seems like she may have read your letter, i've sent a few to Earl Blumenauer and it is obvious that he (or his aids) never even read what i sent. this was his response to me urging him to support the SHARE act, concealed reciprocity and not support any new gun control bills. this abomination was his reply:

Dear Peter Miller,

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about gun violence. I deeply care about this issue. Like you, my heart aches each time we have another horrific shooting. We've seen these acts of violence recently in Oregon at the Clackamas Town Center, Reynolds High School, and Umpqua Community College. And now, two years later, the nation witnessed terrifying carnage in Las Vegas and most recently in Parkland, Florida.

Violent gun crime is a public health emergency. It's outrageous that Congress has failed to act to prevent more tragedies. Instead, Republican leadership has been working on bills like the SHARE Act, which would make it easier for people to buy dangerous gun accessories such as silencers and body-armor piercing bullets. If the GOP leadership had their way, they would continue to do the NRA's bidding, further deregulating gun sales and removing critical safety requirements for concealed carry permits.

We need to act now to prevent gun violence.

We all know that there is no one action that will solve this problem but there are simple, commonsense steps we can take that will make a difference. In 2015, I released a report, Enough is Enough, to address the epidemic of gun violence. A number of these recommendations have legislation in the House that I am supporting. You can also find more information about specific legislation on my website at <broken link removed>.

Many of these actions and others listed below could reduce murder rates by up to 50 percent, according to experts at Johns Hopkins University.

· Keeping guns from the most dangerous users by closing the "private sale loophole" and implementing comprehensive and uniform background checks;
· Having law enforcement follow up with each person who fails the background check;
· Restricting assault weapons and high capacity magazines that are unsafe in any public space;
· Improving our mental health system to make it more accessible and available, and enhancing our capacity to help individuals with mental illness;
· Repealing the Dickey Amendment and authorizing research on gun violence to allow us to fully understand the impact and implications of current policies;
· Making sure guns are tested and regulated to ensure consistency and product safety for consumers;
· Empowering health care professionals to discuss all matters that affect their patients' health, including gun ownership;
· Ensuring better regulation for gun dealers and focusing compliance on the few unscrupulous gun dealers;
· Enforcing existing gun laws by not letting the gun lobby undermine enforcement agencies;
· Requiring that people purchasing a gun have liability insurance; and
· Providing resources for first responders, schools, and public facilities personnel to deal with active-shooter situations.

It's time that we get more than just moments of silence - we need legislation passed now. Our country is more than ready for Congress to take meaningful steps to reduce gun violence. There are concrete actions that almost everyone can agree on. It's past time to address this issue and stop the slaughter.

Thank you for your advocacy and support for greater gun safety.
Sincerely,

The OP letter.

Translated. From B.S to English.

I am for gun rights, except when I am against them. All people should have the right to protected themselves as we think they should. Freedom is very important in this country and I respect everyone's opinion that votes for me and agrees with me. We needed changes in how the government regulates our safety, and I have a clear plan on how to do this, but first you must surrender your rights so we can protect you.
It was a pleasure for "you" write to me, I hope you do not write me again unless you support me.

Signed your owner.

Thats how I read it, maybe be wrong but thats what I saw.

How is it that ALL of the Anti's "sensible/common sense gun legislation" ends up being gun confiscation from lawful firearms owners? Why don't "they" make laws that even BGs will obey?!? Oh yeah, that's right. BGs ignore the laws. Don't come to me Mr/Ms Politician if you cannot stop bad guys with your common sense laws. BG's are the problem. Not me or mine!

I am the NRA and I will vote. When the schools start asking for more school levees I will tell them to take it from your protest funds. I need to remind the school board I am the NRA and I vote too.

So I decided to write Mrs. Cantwell. Wonder if it will get read and what the response will be.

Senator,
You have stated that you support the second amendment, but from the legislation you have supported, it seems to me the direct opposite. I am not attempting to be advisarial or condescending in my questions. I would like a real discussion with you on the subject.
Some questions that I would legitimately like answered please.
1. What exactly is the definition of "expanded background checks"? What do the current checks not accomplish and how would a new system prevent any of the recent (say 2 years) shootings?
2. Why a "10 round limit" for magazine capacity? Is there any logic, data or premise to this number? I see this brought about often, but have no understanding other than it is an arbitrary number. What do you believe the positive impact would be for our safety?
3. Please help me understand what a "sensible balance" is vs. our second amendment right that "shall not be infringed "? I continually see that "We need to do something" and I see that answer is to limit my rights, while not truly doing "something" to solve the real world situations that have occurred. Can sensible be defined? I don't believe all people should own guns, or that there should be no restrictions on the type of weapons allowed in civilian hands, just as I don't believe current proposed restrictions will have any impact on gun violence. I do not believe the Constitution has a "sporting use" or "hunting" clause. I find my position to be "sensible". Am I wrong?
I would like to support legislation that truly addresses the issue. I have yet to see that legislation proposed.
I do not believe limiting the rights of those that go out of their way to remain compliant fixes the problem of those that disobey the law. If it was that simple, let's just make murder illegal!
For me, I look at France, who has strict, if not the strictest gun laws in Europe, yet they have serious gun violence. In our country, Chicago cannot seem to fix their issues, nor California with what I see as unfair, if not unconstitutional gun laws.
I look forward to your response and having a positive conversation on addressing the gun violence issue.
Thank you for your time.
