Not illegal to transfer FTF in Texas.
Who bought it at a ffl is inconsequential unless it is stolen.

It is legal for two residents of Texas...

to transfer a gun between themselves FTF . It IS most definitely 100% illegal under federal law to transfer FTF in Texas if the recipient is a resident of another state thanks to the Gun Control Act of 1968. If they are long guns the recipient and the seller/gifter/grantor/whatever can go to a dealer and transfer through the dealer to make the transaction legal. If they are handguns they would need to be transferred through a dealer in the recipients home state.

Know the law and don't just assume and no, just being in Texas doesnt make you a resident of Texas.
