Its not but it is a law of human nature thats not gonna change. This is why for something like gun rights how our image is seen by non gun owners is utmost important.

I think that method of thinking, though, it has merit, ultimately operates outside the fact that "the other side" has absolutely no desire whatsoever to compromise. Each step is but more progress toward the ultimate goal of total disarmament. At that point, since the stakes are ultimately all or nothing, placating the other side does nothing. If you want a behavior or a culture or a object to be seen as normal, you need to have people doing that, out in the open, without reservation.

People who freak out about guns, freak out about guns, because they don't have lengthy experiences with guns besides negative associations either personally, or supplied to them by political figures and the media.

Personally I simply believe that if they can't be trusted with pointy objects they shouldn't be breathing free air. If they are breathing that free air, it means we should have been sure they are in fact trustworthy as any other average citizen.
