But when you live right up the street from, "The Gun Room" for 20 years it all pales by comparison.

(I've heard it all... on both sides.)

Meet, "Big Tony."

Yeahbut…..they get to hand pick guns made just for them out of metals and alloys most humans have yet to see for themselves.

Ok, but was is supposed to be a PINK hammerless lightweight revolver? Because that makes it much more betterer and womanlyer. The only acceptable choice, really  . Call it a personal pet peeve that women are practically expected to own one specific gun and nothing else
Of course it had to be pink....nothing else is fit for a female.

Depending on the store, I've heard more Glock bashing at the counter than I hear on this forum.

I don't mind when people open their mouths and remove all doubt.

Me; "do you have any 17 Remington ammo?"

Gunshop guy; "yep, we have 4 boxes".

Me; "Great! I'll drive into town right now and pick them up"!

Gunshop guy; " I'll set them aside for you".

Me (after the 40 minute drive to town); I called awhile ago about 17 Remington ammo"...

He says yep, and hands me 4 boxes of Remington 17 HMR, and argues with me that this is what I need, and there is no such thing as a 17 caliber centerfire round, until I ask him to look at a reloading manual...

While I am surprised and shake my head at some of the comments from gun store employees, I tend to cut customers more slack... Everyone starts at the beginning when it comes to learning about any subject and the opportunity may present itself to educate a newer gun owner.

When I was up in Alaska, there was a place where every time you went in there and asked for something they didn't have in stock, they would try to convince you that either A: you didn't want it, or B: it didn't exist. "Hogue doesn't make a grip for the AK," "Norinco guns are known to explode when fired," etc.
Sounds like my local Home Depot. Why you don't want what they don't have: "They don't make those anymore." "Nobody uses those anymore"

Interesting thread, since none of all that conflaberation applies over here in UK. You have to know exactly what you want BEFORE you walk into the gun store. Reason is that the calibre of the gun you want is right there on your Firearms Certificate - that calibre and no other. The choice of arm that shoots it IS up to you, of course, but it helps if you have a very good idea of what you want and the budget to get it. The store clerk is only there to pass on what you want to you, via his gun register and cash-point. Kinda takes all the fun out it, don't it?

Example - you've likely set your mind on a nice new .308Win SAKO hunting rifle from reading the reviews, but when you actually pick it up, you are less than happy how it feels. You try the TIKKA version, and like it even less. Then a Remington, and a Savage, and then settle on a nice second-hand Blaser instead. There is no pressure to buy anything at all - not in any of the four gunstores that I frequent. Nobody can tell YOU how a gun feels to you, except you. It is not unknown to spend an entire DAY in a shotgun specialists, getting the feel of any number of guns before you settle on the one you want.

And as for advising another person - never going to happen - unless, of course, you offer to pay for it.

For those of us over here, you really do live in a different world.

Hummm......thinking about the gun store buying experience in the UK.

This is a joke.
So then......
In an effort to make guns even SAFER for the public.

Perhaps, everyone entering a gun store should undergo a BGC.....BEFORE entering.

Aloha, Mark

PS....or maybe.....Yeah, remember when there was that WARNING SIGN placed at the front of the "Adults Only" section at the video store.

What's a video store? Yeah....and maybe one day it'll be, "What's a gun store?"

"Snide"

OMG.....it says right there at the top.

"This is a joke."

Yeah....snide?
That way, we tend to have fewer loonies shooting the bejasus out of shopping malls, churches and dance halls on a weekly basis.
I got no problem with seeing the "Loonies" kept away from the "sane" folks. BUT, the problem is in recognizing the degree of "Loonie".

I've heard ignorance from both sides of the counter. Fan boys, wanna-bees, know-it-alls that don't, and those who are just lacking knowledge.

The BEST comment I ever heard in a gun store was when the counter gentleman asked me, "son, have you ever fired a pistol before?" "No sir" was my reply.
So he gave me his home phone number (back when land lines were common), and later took me shooting. He taught me many things in several hours at the range. I try to carry on his tutelage, as he has long passed.

From the article:

"American firearms are directly driving the violence, although U.S. appetites for drugs and rampant corruption among Mexican officials also play a role. About 70% of guns recovered by Mexican law enforcement officials from 2011 to 2016 were originally purchased from legal gun dealers in the United States, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives."

That is very misleading. That figure is for the number of guns that the ATF is asked to trace, which is a subset of the guns recovered by Mexican law enforcement. They by no means turn over all guns recovered. They turn over only the ones they want traced. It is no secret that guns are smuggled in through the seaports which are essentially run by the cartels. This is a known source for the bulk of the full-auto weapons, rocket launchers and various explosive devices that they use.

Some of the things that I had in my head about guns when I first got in to the hobby? This is only been 11 years ago. Some are pretty laughable now. Not "Stoopid" or dangerous though. But I must have sounded really noobish to some of the gun store folks.

I really loathe the argument that populations of people should be deprived of individual liberty because a few individuals commit evil acts.

Sickens me to think that the Brits begged Americans for guns about 80 years ago to have the means to defend themselves from invasion only to have not learned from that lesson and disarm themselves again. History repeats because the human species hasn't really changed and the lessons learned by previous generations are soon forgotten by people who've grown up only ever knowing a relatively secure and well functioning society.

I read the 'this is a joke' as a comment on my post. I didn't see any other 'joke' in your post.

Oh well....
It appears to me.....
That you might just enjoy, looking for the/a BAD side of my posts. Or maybe, itching to see Anti-UK posts?

Or perhaps.....
Justified or not.....you might be judging.....based on a past post of mine? Whatever.

Enjoy the rest of your day.
And THAT, was said with only a GOOD HEART.

Aloha, Mark
