When I was in college almost 40 years ago, even then it was recognized that water would be one of the most precious resources. Global warming wasn't a scare, but drought in the southwest, the rapidly falling Ogallala aquifer and the evaporating Colorado River system levels were inauspicious warnings.
An article I read which pointed to the common consensus that the Great Lakes region would be a mecca also noted the rising pollution levels and the probable impact those would have in decades to come. In the eighties, there were already numerous river systems "too toxic" to swim in, and aquifers that had dioxin and heavy metals in toxic levels.
People can invest in land and move where they want, smug in having secured their future. However, if they haven't planned, prepared and developed survival mechanisms accordingly, they will just be bugs on the windshield like those who never gave it a moment's thought.

Climate Change Insurance: Buy Land Somewhere Else

In case global warming makes their homes uninhabitable, some millennials have a Plan B: investing in places like the Catskills, Oregon and Vermont.

They're thinking about the future - that's good. Some of those places don't sound far enough away from the big cities but maybe it will work. If they get out in the sticks maybe they'll want guns - that's good for our side. This part of the world seems to be getting warmer - is it caused by CO2? I think it may be - the math is complicated, but the general idea isn't.

Our side is going to have to figure out what to do about the global warming political problem. A couple more hot summers with too many fires and hurricanes, etc and more people on the fence will start being believers - and they vote. For antis.

But if his part of Greenwich is ever in jeopardy, he added, "I'll have a safe space."
...and he'll defend it to the death while tweeting about his angst about being run out by locals and spilling his latte.
My dad used to take us primitive camping up in the Catskills. These days I hate NY for what it's become and people like this douchenozzle are the typical of the current generation infecting that area.

Yeah, I moved to Oregon from California 5 years ago. The rain is slowing here already and the forests will probably all burn. Should have moved to Canada.

Whether or not one believes in catastrophic man-caused global warming (I don't) doesn't matter because enough lawmakers seem to, and so we will all feel the effects of that belief in the form of higher taxes, fees, and restrictions on our freedom.

Not sure how you prepare for the state taking more stuff away, but I'm open to ideas.

Sadly, just leaving the state. If I had a better option, I'd take it, but I'm not seeing another solution. There is a train-load of new taxes coming in Oregon, at least one particularly nasty bill supposedly to address anthropogenic climate change, that will impose more tax burden on businesses. I don't know about our friends up north, but if I had to take a wild guess, more taxes are coming there too.

There's a y00to0b video claiming a 350yr ice age will hit us within the next 5-months, so you all should buy a good jacket...jest sayin'

Definitely been an avalanche of snowflakes since November 2016. :)

How in the he11 can anyone believe that going from pre-industrial CO2 levels of 280 parts per million (ppm) to the current 410 ppm, could make the earth warmer? 410 CO2 molecules for every 1,000,000 air molecules is going to make a difference? Did they legalize pot or something :) - how did Al Gore come up with this stuff?

What? It wasn't Al's idea? Some dude in the 1896 came up with it? Yup:

Full disclosure: I have not read the paper in that link.

How could a few gas molecules heat the earth?! 5 minute video with an explanation at the molecular level:

Who thinks it's warmer now than it was 20, 30, or 40 years ago? Seems to me it is. Am I positive CO2 is the reason? No, but I think it probably is.

The earth climate is always changing. Deserts in africa were once lush forest and grasslands. People forget socal is a desert basin and the Indians used to call the inland valley the valley of smoke. 10,000 years ago there was 3 miles of ice on top of WA. All species on earth can and do go extinct. Why should humans be any different.

By far the primary global warming gas is water vapor. It's not even close.

It doesn't have to be man-made global warming (I believe it is part man-made & part natures way natural cycle). Whichever you believe or don't believe, it is here, none-the-less. The evidence is all around us. Disappearing lakes & rivers. Aquifers and springs are drying up or gone, Ice shelves breaking off and melting. Even man diverting waters to other areas. Think LA. In order to keep LA going men diverted water to LA and completely destroyed a huge lake and some cities in doing so (look it up- the information is out there). And this is not to mention deforestation - We don't like to talk about it - But it is in fact True. And as things get worse the flow of people moving out of the big cities and the places where water is drying up. (some much worse than others) the people will begin leaving those areas. Think California and worse off is Nevada. Especially the poor SAPS who choose to live in Las Vegas (nothing for them when the electricity and and gas are shut off). Actually the migration out of California is already taking place. It is not evident as the the illegal immigration and legal immigration is offsetting those Californians who have and are leaving.

At any rate, everyone should have a plan-b. start looking at maps and climate changes to determine the best place to relocate or burro in. You should try to locate farther away from large cities. Think mountains, far out as you can get. Ensure you have a water supply and ideally soil to farm in, and raise farm animals in. You can even go the 25-30 year dried foods route if you want to go the underground bunker style way. The farther north you go the better to stay away from rising temps.

Lastly. say you have made it to your promise land, right?. You need Plenty of water (or access to it) and food. Now you better be prepared to defend it!. Hopefully you didn't succumb to the Democrats and their de-Arming anti-gun laws and you kept your collection of firearms and ammo. If not, you are not going to make for long. Someone who didn't prepare a plan-b, but however didn't turn in his firearms and guns. He is coming for your plan-b. And he will take it from you.

Sad part of this whole story. I'm older (57ish) my kids are millennial, and they could care less. They see me preparing, they ignore the things going on around them. I assume they think it will never happen or maybe they think the government will take care of them.
I work with such a millennial. We have discussed this stuff and his opinion? "Science will find a way" I always reply, "Science got us into this problem"

I also believe the population explosion has a lot to do with our present problems. When I was a young tyke in the 60's and 70's the population was 2+ Billion. Here we are 2019 and we have 7.5+ billion people. So you can say it took 50 years for the population to go from 2 billion to 7+ billion. How long will it take 7+ billion to double 14-15 billion? I can guarantee it won't take 50 years. probably more like 15-20 years. Will you be alive to witness this or starve or die of thirst, maybe if you are in your 30's and 40's.

Science in order to feed this over-populous world found a way. And that way was to mass produce packaged, boxed, canned. bagged etc. Processed foods - Mass produced and sometimes cooked (Most of the nutrients cooked out), preserved - Chemicals added to keep them on the selves longer and to ship farther), then enhanced foods (basically chemicals (steroids) to make the cattle and foul (chicken and other foul) larger to feed more. Lest we not forget sweetening our food. Science decided it was too expensive to use suger to sweeten and enhance food, they decided they could mass produce High Fructose Corn Syrup and put it in almost everything so we get addicted to suger and crave it more and more. And now the Chinese are adding trace amounts of plastics to grain like rice to make them go farther. So in essence we are less healthy based on our eating processed, chemically enhanced and steroid raised animals. None of this is helping us. By the way, a large portion of you can blame Science on your Diabetes, high blood pressure and a myriad of diseases all this scientifically engineered food. Lets give Science one more negative. You know the food pyramid they taught us for many years.... lots of grain, dairy and at the bottom of the pyramid was protein such as beef & pork. Now new science says it was all wrong and are reversing themselves. Look up the new food pyramid. Just think of what the food will look like to feed a populous of 15 billion.. Yummy.

We are a world of builders, bigger, stronger and taller, not to mention fancier. We are raping the forests around the world for a number of products. All the while polluting the environment and no longer creating the required oxygen the forests of the world produce. Now we are poisoning ourselves with massive amounts of CO2. As we go to sleep at night and wonder if we will ever wake up.

All the things above are related in a multitude of ways. Let's hope like my Millennial friend at work is correct when he says - Science will save us! or Will it?

Go enjoy your life as long as you can. Enjoy the warmer than average summers and winters and getting warmer every year. Enjoy your bottled water as long as you can afford it. BBQ your steroid enhanced beef, and your ostrich SIZED chicken wings and legs. Your Turkey SIZED chicken breasts while you can.

Sorry for the long rambling. I think about this stuff a lot. And I barely even touched on anything political. That would take a much longer post. And sorry if there are any misspellings and grammatical errors. I typed this quickly

CaptJack,

One thing I completely forgot to mention.
Should you have made it to your promise land and you have a fresh water supply, land to grow in, and raise livestock on. And you didn't turn in any of your fire arms or ammo. Your family is with you and they are all trained in the proper use of firearms and your are living the dream. Above all else - DO NOT let any Republicans into your Plan-b promise land!! Trust me they will lie to you to get in, do the least amount of work and in the end turn on you (yep) and in the dark of night allow other Republicans in to ultimately invade your land. You will be systematically killed off or cast out. Just my 2cents.

I think that is true. The difference is that CO2 is increasing faster. H2O vapor is increasing as the air warms because warm air can hold more water than cooler air.

All true, as far as I know, and it's a powerful argument against man-made warming. It's those last 2 sentences that many want to avoid - can you believe the selfishness of those people? :)

,

Agree with most of that post. And I hope science will save us. If we could get fusion power going, maybe we could afford to remove CO2 from the air on a large scale - I'm not holding my breath. A few more unusually hot summers and the voters will force us to use alternatives to fossil fuels, or somehow remove CO2 from FF emissions. I do not want socialists to get in power, but when man-made climate change becomes undeniable, if our side is still denying it, then we will be defeated in elections. Time to figure out if it's real or not; and if it is, to propose our own fixes while we still have some power left. I do not believe our side is anti-science as the left loves to claim. There are many conservative scientists, engineers, etc.

Do I want to give up my FF car? Nope. But I don't always get what I want.

An interesting question for people on our side might be: If it were proven to YOU that burning FFs is going to cause catastrophic problems for humans, would you support programs to wean us off of them fairly quickly?
