Schumer asked Holder's department to probe whether the laws "are creating more violence than they are preventing," and whether potential murders are "going unprosecuted" because of them.
Schumer why don't you focus on the 2000+ firearms the justice department funneled into the hands of drug cartels in Mexico.

Just another race baiting poverty pimp working his constituency. This is how they work it, sadly they ignore the thousands of deaths every year from black violence because it doesn't fit their political message.

Zimmerman may or may not be a homicidal racist creep. Young Trayvon may or may not have turned and come after Zimmerman thus provoking his own death. Right now, nobody really knows just what happened or how it happened.

It looks like a whole lot of people are all jumping to conclusions regarding this case. There are thousands of people marching in the streets in cities all over the country screaming for justice in a case none of them actually know anything about.

Now we get Schumer tossing in his two bits worth. No doubt the anti-gunners are dusting off their protest marching signs.

It would be nice if everybody (for once) would just shut the hell up and let law enforcement do their investigation and get to the bottom of this killing before going off half-cocked.

This is so starting to look more and more like the civil unrest BS from the 60s and when you look back at the people in that leadership its still the same as today. Without the racist gin up they don't make money and feel that power to control. Beside what a great distraction from the distruction of America.

We do know a few things... Zimmerman was carrying a gun and Trayvon was carrying Skittles. Zimmerman was asked to stay put and he went after Trayvon. The kid is dead and the killer walked, hiding behind the Castle Doctrine. Racist or not he chased the kid down and killed him. He could have stayed in his car like the dispatcher said. Dont bring a gun to a fist fight. Self defense...HA! The kid defended himself with his hands and probably whooped his *** and he was ticked and shot him. Remember who chased who down. Isnt the Castle doctrine supposed to protect people pleading self defense in their own homes, ie their castle??

billstaf... you are saying for everyone to shut the hell up and let law enforcement do their job? Isnt that the issue? Local Law Enforcement didnt do their job and thats what the world is ticked at.

DMax... civil unrest BS??? really? fighting for your rights is BS? I suppose that in your opinion blacks should still use separate water fountains and sit on the back of the bus eh?

Someones unarmed son is dead because of a trigger happy cop wannabe. Rep or Dem that plain just sucks.

Just an FYI for you Dave, this case doesn't involve a "Castle Doctrine". It's a "Stand Your Ground" law.
Still, following someone doesn't sound like standing your ground to me.

Mike

I think you are creating facts where they might not exist. An older, heavy set man chased down a high school football player? How exactly did he end up on his back? How exactly did he end up bleeding from the back of his head and face? I don't have the answers to these questions, do you? Thats what an investigation is for. Let the police (and now justice dept) do their jobs and investigate. Like billstaf said a few posts ago:

Hey, we should be thanking Chuckie Schumer, at least Martin only had skittles instead of Four Loko. He's looking out for us.

Always hated Schumer after the Waco fake 'hearings' and his smug, uncaring attitude.

Sonny Bono, on the other hand, won my respect for having the heart to shed some tears as he listen to the testimony of how children were burned/murdered by the ATF and FBI thugs.

Police release account of events and Zimmermans statements.

Trayvon Martin: George Zimmerman's account to police of the Trayvon Martin shooting. - Orlando Sentinel

With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk several times, leaving him bloody and battered, authorities have revealed to the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say.

Zimmerman has not spoken publicly about what happened, but that night, Feb. 26, and in later meetings he described and re-enacted for police what he says happened.

In his version of events, he had turned around and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from behind, the two exchanged words then Trayvon punched him in the nose, sending him to the ground, and began beating him.

Zimmerman told police he shot the teenager in self-defense.

Civil rights leaders and thousands of others have demanded Zimmerman's arrest, calling Trayvon a victim of racial profiling and Zimmerman a vigilante.

Trayvon was an unarmed black teenager who had committed no crime, they say, who was gunned down while walking back from a 7-Eleven with nothing more sinister than a package of Skittles and can of Arizona iced tea.

Supporters have held rallies in Sanford, Miami, New York and Tallahassee, calling the case a tragic miscarriage of injustice.

Activist Al Sharpton headlined a rally in Sanford Thursday that drew an estimated 8,000 people. The Rev. Jesse Jackson yesterday spoke at an Eatonville church, where he called Trayvon a martyr.

Another rally is scheduled for 4 p.m. today in Sanford.

Zimmerman has gone into hiding. A fringe group, the New Black Panthers, have offered a $10,000 reward for his capture.

Police have been reluctant to provided details about all their evidence, but this is what they've disclosed to the Sentinel:

Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.

Trayvon was visiting his father's fiancée, who lived there. He had been suspended from school in Miami after being found with an empty marijuana baggie. Miami schools have a zero-tolerance policy for drug possession.

After the Orlando Sentinel was the first to report the detail about the marijuana, other news media have followed the story. That attention led to a press conference called by Trayvon Martin's family after a community forum in Eatonville sponsored by TV talk show host Roland Martin.

Martin family lawyer Benjamin Crump began the press conference by addressing the marijuana report.

"The family has said, 'what does that have to do with him (Zimmerman) killing my son? What does it matter?'" Crump said. "It's completely irrelevant what Trayvon Martin was suspended for on Feb. 26."

Trayvon's father, Tracy Martin, said "even in death, they are still disrespecting my son and I feel that that's a sin."

His mother, Sybrina Fulton just has one comment:

"They killed my son and now they're trying to kill his reputation."

Rev. Al Sharpton, who led a rally last week that drew 8,000 to downtown Sanford, said the media was missing the point.

"Why are we asking what Trayvon is capable of, when you have records of Zimmerman's past?" Sharpton asked the crowd of reporters. "He has the record of violence, so why are we going out of our way to create stuff in Trayvon's background when you have documented stuff in Zimmerman's background?"

On Feb. 26, when Zimmerman first spotted Trayvon, he called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

Zimmerman got out of his SUV to follow Trayvon on foot. When a dispatch employee asked Zimmerman if he was following the 17-year-old, Zimmerman said yes. The dispatcher told Zimmerman he did not need to do that.

There is about a one-minute gap during which police say they're not sure what happened.

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police.

Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

Zimmerman began yelling for help.

Several witnesses heard those cries, and there's been a dispute about from whom they came: Zimmerman or Trayvon.

Lawyers for Trayvon's family say it was Trayvon, but police say their evidence indicates it was Zimmerman.

One witnesses, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest from very close range, according to authorities.

When police arrived less than two minutes later, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose, had a swollen lip and had bloody lacerations to the back of his head.

Paramedics gave him first aid, but he said no to going to the hospital. He got medical care the next day.

The Department of Justice last week opened a civil rights investigation into what happened, and Gov. Rick Scott appointed a special prosecutor.

It's not clear whether the special prosecutor, Angela Corey, the state attorney for Duval, Clay and Nassau counties, will have Zimmerman arrested, announce that there's not enough evidence to file a manslaughter charge or present evidence to a grand jury.

Sounds like complete BS. Every description of the kid is that of a introvert and non confrontation type.

That he would attack his pursuer and pound him into the ground just doesn't seem possible. But if Zimmerman has witnesses that say it happen that way, it is case closed. Unless other witnesses say otherwise.

This whole thing is disgusting all around, but it was topped off today when the kid's mom (note lower case there) moved to trademark his name...last week.

The reality is there is not a single witness that actually claims to have seen a single punch thrown. The one witness on record has disputed what police wrote in the report saying she never said that. Now the local authorities claim it was said by an anonymous witness that called police.
