I used the mouth of an empty 5.56 shell case to scrape the carbon off of the bolt tail of one of my bolts. It had about 6,000 rnds through it at the time. Changed out the rings and extractor just because. The mouth of the shell case has about the same contour as the bolt tail. Not sure if that makes sense without a picture but, it works alright. I didn't have any bolt problem before or after so that was the only time I've done it.
