To me, this sounds like the 'Swiss Model' of service and training. I agree with it personally, but I don't think a mandatory service would pass constitutional muster. But like any other service, I think it should be a readily available viable option made available to every citizen. One could argue that that's the 2ndA, but has become interpreted pretty distantly from that now.
Close too it but I wouldn't be for required service after school.
Some people can kill and others can not - why force them into something they can't handle.
The first couple years could be just air guns to keep it cheaper but parents are not teaching the kids how to use a gun or a screwdriver anymore.
I'd rather kids learn about firearms then 4 years of English classes that only a small percentage will use in their lifetime (as well as a foreign language). I'd bring music classes back though.
