There is a quote attributed to Mark Twain that injects at least a little hope for the future:
When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.
Of course, in the 19th Century, teenagers may have become more objective as they aged!
Just remember when talking to young folk, that the speed of sound theory is flawed. It takes about 30 years for good advice to reach them.
