powder advice

Getting an AR next month and could use thoughts on powder. Will have a 16" barrel and shooting 55 grain FMJ's. Just blasting and plinking, what is a cleaner burning powder? Using a 550 Dillon reloader.

I have had good luck with TAC, since TAC is a ball powder it will meter well in your 550 ,
but there is a good selection of ball powders that will pair up with your AR and your dillon 550

I agree! One of the best powders I have ever used and great in my .223 (non-AR) but very accurate and clean burning.

My experience with 748 and Tac (ball powders) is that they are much dirtier than extruded powders. True they meter very nicely, but a stick powder burns cleaner and leaves less residue. I would recommend H4895.

CFE223 is a great metering powder and doesn't take a huge amount to get the job done.

TAC is also my first option in my .223 Rem handloads. If you want an extruded powder, I suggest looking at IMR-8208 XBR. It is fine grained enough that it is decent in a powder measure and is probably more temperature stable than a ball powder. FWIW, I use TAC with bullets from 40 gr to 77 gr, in 10 1/2", 16", 20", and 24" AR's and 22" and 26" barreled bolt guns. That being said, there are lots of powders that will provide good results in the .223/5.56.

ive been using win 748 for a few years, thousands of rounds reloaded... not a single hickup

IMR3031 IMHO, works well with 308 also.

H335 and BLC-2 are the only powders I use for 223/556, BLC-2 also loads larger calibers.
