Why did this story go out of their way not to list names? Was it in the spirit of cooperation? Maybe the survivalist was a pastor.

Problems:

#1: He did not bury the "bunker" deep enough.
#2: He did this on public land.
#3: He apparently left something there that identified him.
#4: He admitted to it.
#5: He went ahead and constructed the grenades instead of just keeping the ingredients separate.

Heretic hit a couple good points; always sterilize the area before leaving; always.

Never assemble explosive devices until absolutely necessary!

I'd add that illegal explosive devices are not worth the risk while the US Constitution is still in effect (ROL).

Pull surveillance for at least 24 hours (at least, and 48 if possible) before returning to any cache.

Stay off natural lines of drift, out of sight and sound of danger areas, and must be on defendable terrain.
