RE : The accuracy of gun polls.

Awwww.....Come On Man.
THAT......is another good reason to register ALL firearms with the Govt.

Is that you Brandon?

Aloha, Mark

Even people who are anti gun own guns. Reality often overrides idealistic, pie in the sky, want it to be, unrealistic views of how the world should be.
There's probably no way to know, but I'd be curious how many anti gunners own guns.
.....more specifically how many self defense guns anti gunners own? Not hunting guns but AK/ARs etc. and modern semi auto pistols like Glocks.

I've known a couple. They are typically of the "rules for thee but not for me" types. Shockingly this was when I lived in CA.

Not to propagate any stereotypes, but my frame of reference tells me that more conservatives own firearms. Most conservatives, when approached by a pollster, are exponentially more likely to tell them to go take a flying poke at a rolling donut. Of those that are conservative, firearm owners and would actually answer a random poll.... a big chunk will have no issue about telling a little white lie when it comes to anything of a personal nature. Be it firearms, finances, groups they may be members of... or other.

Broad guesstimations are about all you're ever going to get. In the grand scheme of things... what does it matter? A right is a right and we know for a fact there are plenty enough to qualify under "common use".

Even if the data showed that only 10% or even 5% of americans own guns I can't see many firearms owners giving up their guns over perceived "peer pressure". They would just keep their ownership more to themselves... I would think.

I have never responded in the affirmative as to owning firearms. Not to a blind poll, not to medical professionals, not to casual acquaintances with a casual inquiry. It's just no one's business.

So on the one hand, ownership numbers could be higher than what we've traditionally told. But there's also the multiple gun owner. Not talking about the guy that has a rifle, a shotgun and a handgun. Talking about the guy with 30 AR's, 15 shotguns, and more Glocks than Gaston himself.

If there's upwards of 450M firearms in civilian hands across AmeriKa, it's seems reasonable that actual ownership numbers are somewhere in the 50M-75M range, considering the multiple arms ownership.

How many have safes full of firearms, betcha that number is higher than most would guess…

when I think of self defense guns ar's and ak's aren't very close to the top of the list. not bashing those that make that choice, just my :s0159:

Here's a poll, the number of Americans that are anti firearm plus the number of Americans that want your scary black rifles taken away adds up to more than 50% of the population.

A long time ago in college I took a semester of Statistical Math (had to).

I was amazed at the many ways data could be manipulated to favor an

outcome. Therefore, I put no stock in surveys.

Polls, in general, are just a broad sample of the lies and half truths people tell themselves.
" do you plan to start exercising in the next few months?" Of course, lol
" how tall are you?"
" how many sexual partners in your past?"
" would you consider yourself intelligent?"
" ever farted in a room full of children and blamed one of them?"

Ha! I always lied on polls at school as a kid.
"Do you do drugs?
"Yes please."

I had to take a similar course and came to the same conclusion. Plus I learned that the longer you stay in a casino the greater likelihood you will lose every dollar.

Oregon State offers "Queer Studies" as a minor. Recently, the LGBQ graduate students/profs in that program did a study about "engineering culture" in the Engineering, Computer Science and other STEM programs. Based on the results from polling the STEM under-graduates, they concluded that STEM programs were rife with "white supremists" and "far right fascists". Bottom line, you tailor and interpret the poll to get the results you want.
