I prefer metal for my defense weapons and when hunting. It's more of a tried and true thing that has never failed me. I do have poly mags I use on the range.

IMHO, it really depends on the magazine. Polymer can be more durable than people will give it credit, and some metal magazines aren't up to the task.

Whatever works works. Though for an AR, 20 round aluminum mags cause they look nice. For everything else, whatever I can get and afford.

It depends on the firearm, but I mostly like polymer.

I've had too many problems with the follower binding in metal mags or something getting bent out of spec just slightly and causing serious malfunctions.

I only buy pmags and glock factory mags, so I can't comment on the budget polymer manufacturers.
